Ok, here we go, this is the start of my 1 of 2 to be built retro cars. This particular vehicle is to be an 09 challenger ragtop done in panther pink with old school white interior and in "T/A" trim.

So, how's she look so far...oh, she'll have a white boot too.
The neat part about this is I bought the new 2009 AMT coupe kit and it comes with spare decals of everything I need to make this one look great - spare front body emblem, fuel cap decal, gauges...the "T/A" stripes are from the #85-4213 Revell street burner '70 dodge challenger 2in1 kit. I'll do "that" kit in the R/T livery to match the '09 R/T I'll do from the AMT #616 kit. I'll have 4 cars done when finished...two in '70 challenger T/T and R/T trim and two in '09/'08 T/A and R/T trim.
The above pictured kit is the Maito '08 challenger SRT8 coupe with the top chopped off.

Looks great so far Bob.
I've always liked the pink panther color. What brand of paint have you used?

Me too, and thank you sir.
The paint in question is modelmaster panther pink spray lacquer.
You'll note the decals didn't fit so well around the door handle so I touched up on the handle and just did a thin strip underneith. Shot a coat of flat black on the hood to match the actual T/A trim and the darned paint fish eyed on me{I did clean it off with soap but apparently not enough or well enough....one step back I quess}.
I wanted the white/black interior of old days...my buddies had the black carpet and dash...all my mopars had black interiors except for my '72 satellite which was green - then changed to black by me.

Good news...dry, bad, enamel paint is easily removed from lacquer with mineral sprirts...cool! Shot another coat of flat black and it went on fine this time........

Here's some new updates;
How's the interior look with burlwood inserts?

Here's the hood done up in black as per the old T/A's...looks alittle better...

...comments welcome.......bad ones too. I'm still thinking of doing black arm rests on the door panels..
I'm puttying the top of the boot right now to give it that bowed look.

Oh, for those of you who'd wish to do your own "wood" inserts here's what I did;
- base coat of white
- 1st coat of tamiya dark yellow{xf-60}...it doesn't have to be a solid coat...alittle streaked is good!
- 2nd step is dry brushed tamiya brown{x-9} for grain effect.
- 3rd/final is tamiya clear orange{x-29} as a top coat to warm up the other colors...a solid coat here isn't needed...mottle, streak as per the look you want.

This process works rather nicely on WWI airplane propellers too!...or any other "to be wood" item.

Great work Bob, i like the color but i really like the interior with the wood inserts very sharp. Dodge came up with a very hot car to bad they did it in a bad economy it may help them out a little i hope.

I agree, a convertible would be a great addition to the line up, but it may never happen...and I highly doubt they'd do one my way as well.
Started the roll bar today...I'm thinking I'm going to need to do some flocking for the carpet since it looks too flat the way she stands....any references for online flocking{black} since the LHS doesn't carry it?
Oh, the body has it's 1st coat of clear lacquer...1 to 2 more to go yet.

It's close to monday!!!! I was trying to button this one up, and super glued the boot to the body...some glue got on the body so I tried some super glue debonder on it to remove the glue...it did....and took the paint clean off! Ouchhhhhhhh! Well, back to square one on the body......

Bob,

You can find a whole bunch of flocking at Detail Master.

Model Car Garage carries flocking as well.

Wellllllllll.........I wasn't totally happy with the stripes anyway!{look under the door handle}
Here's what happens when thin super glue gets where it shouldn't and you try and use debonder on laquer paint... a gloped up mess! I was doomed anyway since trying to remove that glue would've been a disaster anyway.

I'll start wet sanding it down and recoat, but loosing the decals will hurt since now I'll have to buy another kit to pilfer the decals from...........well, when life gives you lemons...you make lemonade..in this particular case it'll be "pink" lemonade!
I ain't outta the race yet and she'll make the fall model show just fine...I'm just dropping back and punting at this point.......

Thanks for the reference, but I tried something else and it worked nicely. I had "micro balloon filler" that I had used for the park flyers....painted a coat of flat black and dusted the carpet with that, then coated over when dry...not too bad, but I'll pony up for the flocking anyway next time.

Hi Bob
Sorry, I missed the update, with the interior. The wooden inserts looks great.

A shame about the paintjob.

Alright, harkening back to my real car resto days I figured I could redo this one easy enough...though it's been awhile. The decal section will be tough though-

...needs to set up more then 2500 grit and another polish.

Alrighty then...the paint is fixed...smoothed all the bad area out, spot primed and painted, wet sanded, painted{repete once more}, and polished it out...looks like new. New decal for that section is next, then a clear coat and polish....to be continued......
