I am usually an armor builder, but have a special project ongoing. I need some car help.

My daughter and I are building a 1:1 '77 Camaro for her (below) and I would like to build a model of it as well. I have seen the '70 1/2 and '79 kits, but these will not do. The front and rear ends, and bumpers are different on them. I have seen/heard of an old AMT/MPC '75 or '76 kit. Does anyone have one to spare or know where one can be located? Or is there a resin/AM set(s) to convert one of the above kits to a '77?.

Here is the 1:1 car.

In progress...

Exterior done and repainted...

We still need to finish up the interior, but it is getting there.

Any help on the model will be most appreciated.

Excellent restoration! I hope she loves it.
As for the model kit, you're right. That AMT one is hard to find nowadays. The closest I find is this one on Ebay
I used to have the kit you're describing, handed down from a neighbor, but I cut it up to make a dragster in my foolish youth, so even if I had it in a box out in my garage, it wouldn't serve you well-- unless to replace the T-Top roof of the kit above.
Happy hunting. Keep your eyes open-- cars come back all the time, you know.

Thanks Sean. I hadn't seen the kit you linked to. It is much more reasonably priced than some others I have seen. There are 2 of the straight (non t-top version) Camaro kits on eBay, one going for $65 and the other for $107. The t-top version and a new roof might just work. Do you still have the dragster you built for sure?

And oh yeah, the car is her baby. She loves it.

Gino,
I'll check and get back to you tomorrow.
-Sean.
P.S: I checked all through my boxes-- it was a trip down memory lane-- but no luck with the Z28. Sorry I couldn't help you out.

Hello Gino,
Man that’s a great car; I have and had many Camaros over the years. I was never a fan of the late 60’s Camaros. For me it was only the second generation bodies and my first was a 1972 LT and the last was the 81. The 82 became the Dona car of the Camaro…a girl’s car LOL! Many of mine were turned into drag cars barely legal for the streets.

Ok now for the model, well yes 76-77 Camaro, However they are hard to find and made by MPC in 1/25th. Can you find them, yeah but around the fifty dollar rage. It is the same body, short quarters, rear/front steel bumpers and rear wrap around tail lights.

Another source would be to find those curb side cars that the dealer ships would get in for displays. The model would have full interior and the whole thing would be molded in one color but it would have it chrome parts. These cars are called Dealer Promo's 1:25 scale model cars.

Hope that helps some….

Happy Modeling,
Joe
