Hello modelers.

My first project has come to a stage, one starts to think what's up for next.
I got real enthousiastic in building the DS19 1/16 from Heller.
With some 3 weeks to go before the Rusty/Scrap campaign starts, I'll start a new project on the DS.
Shortbase DS racer from the seventies. Please get your earplugs ready when watching the link.

This is a Citroën DS racingcar, build 1970. This is probarly a prototype for the later DS21 racers that did for example the famous Portugese Rally of 1972.

The evolution of racing cars, type DS in this case, is rather bizar. From production car to some kind of monster.

The 1970 racer will be the build for my next project on DS.

The car in the video in a way is a short wheelbase productioncar.
They have all kinds of productioncodes. I will come back to that later. Citroënforum guys gave me some nice links and information to get me a first basic idea of what to do with a Heller 1/16.

I will have to remove most of the back and change the nose from a first type to a second type. Shape is a little different.
And the best part, bigger wheels.

It took some time but I found out how to make some nice tires for my racer.
I still had some black foam left from other projects. The foam has a very compact structure. Used for presentations, I tokk it out of the bin.
Better to watch the pictures with some keywords.
First I cut the tire in 2 pieces. Flange is a normalpart from the Heller kit. Two rings made with styrene will keep the 'inside tire'in shape & position. After some glue and patience, cutting & sanding a fat race tire was born.

Pretty wornout Michelins. See what I can do to give some extra profile. 3 pieces left to do.

Hi,
Some progress with my DS racer.
I used the back interior parts as a subframe by removing the doorpanels. There will be no backseat

Did some cutting.

Made a composition .

Now I get some sleep.

Some progress on my racer. Shape of the bodywork starts to look good. Still need a second round with putty and sanding afterwards..
Now back to the interior of the back of the car.

That will be all for now.

Hi all,

I wonder if the new kit on the DS19 is better. I have got 2 now.
Besides of the artwork on the box, there's Humbrol involved as a brandname.
It was time to do a dry fit for the engine.

It all went very easy this time. I remember the first build, about 15 years ago, was troubled by non fitting and broken parts all over the kit.

There will be more later today I think.

Hi all. Her's a new upodate from building my racer.
A lot of scratchbuilding has to be done. Interior in the back, the front and the rollbar. I started to reinforce the chasis, gave the inside of the former doors a new look. Also the dashbord had a change. Racers had a state of the art controlpanel, different position of the handles.
Made a start with a bar on the nose for extra lights.

So far so good. Little stress on the cracks however. But it's not that bad afterall. Second round of putty will do.
Time to think about the rollbars inside the car.

Hello everybody.
Some progress on my project. Pictures from the new exhaustpipes, rolbar and details on the drumbrakes.

Interior of the car is ready for a paintjob. After that I can get the rolbar in it's position.

Did some weathering to the bottom of the car.

It aint ready yet. There are still some things to do inside the car. When that is finished I can put the top & bottom together.
Untill now everything come very close and there no gaps to fill.

The thing I like the most on this project is the re-designing.
There is not much info on the inside. Lots of freedom in how to solve the problems you face, means also a lot of fun.
