Made a little progress over the weekend, got the last water hose, without super glue or duct tape. Rear axle and springs glued together, but not attached to the car. Wheels built up, ready for tires.

Next big hurdle, painting the body. Whatch'a think, primer red or primer gray?

OK, seriously, it's been 48 years since I tried to paint a car. And that one turned out more like a fighter than a car. I'm guessing wash, prime, sand, base coat, sand, mist coats and sanding. gloss and polish. any better hints???

I'm a gloss-coat novice myself, but I'd choose the primer that was closer to your final paint color.

My guess is to start with Tamiya white primer. I've got a mid range blue something like this in mind: Revell 1/25 '69 Camaro

A white primer should be fine for that blue Mark.
Wash, prime, sand etc... is the way to go.

Regarding sanding: I only sand if necessary. I look for flaws between coats and only sand if need be.

Be carefull when polishing, you dont want to burn through the paint.Can be a nasty problem if you burn through the gloss coat and top color.

I found out on this Chevy, it's best to build the wheels by trapping the tire (tyre) between the halves before gluing them together. Have the warm the tire with the hair dryer before I can push the wheel assembly through.

After doubting the gaudy amount of chrome and looking again at prototype Chevy pics, I decided the hood ridges didn't have chrome. The gleam in the photos is just paint. It was easy enough to pull off the BMF with a toothpick and tweezers, so here are the final final pics.

Sean, beautiful work on the Chev mate, you have done justice to such a magnificent example of cutting edge engineering and performance.



Edit: I have just gone back to the start of this thread and read it through again over a nice hot coffee (things are quiet at work, RDO in the building industry). I might be a bit slow on the uptake but I think as a group we may all be in serious need of help. Or possibly bourbon. Either way, I had a good laugh, you guys have made this a really enjoyable trip. Keep up the great work, and the trading blows !

Yeah, who would have thought scale modeling could be this fun

Windows are in place(Not one big window, to be attached to the inner roof, no 4 individual windows)
Just need to slap some semi gloss black here and there, before attaching the interior.

Have started doing the wiring on the engine.

Wiring done on the mighty 440, engine installed, interior section attached to the body. Undercariage will be finished later today.

Here are the wheels from Camaro, besides get that last bit of flash, what can I do to bring the wheels to life?


I had more luck with the hood. Lacks a bit of depth, but there's some life in there among all the dark.

forgot to wrap the header - exhaust joint with duct tape...

Looking good Mark.
Try to give the wheels a black wash(Highly diluted black paint) This add some depth to the wheels and bring out details.

Nice work Mark, looks great. I'm with Jesper with the wash, it's amazing how much difference such a simple little treatment makes to the look for chrome parts.

Tiny bit of progress last night. Had better luck painting the chrome parts than I expected. I'll try a black wash on the wheels tonight.

Looks good Mark.

Had a bit of a setback last night. Wanted assemble the body and undercarriage, but I couldn't get the undercarriage in place. Found out the interior section should have been mounted further up towards the ceiling. The windscreen stopped the interior section, from going further up, which of course, I should have seen before I glued it in place.
So I had to break of the interior section and start working removing material from the windscreen and hopefully that will be enough.

Thanks Guys, I've almost got the cab finished, steering wheel and dash to go. The tires (tyres) look better, next I've got to get the spoiler on and it's off to mask and prime the body... more pics soon.

If this model is the least bit accurate, ther's no way to drive this car with legs.

Mark, I can see what you mean, it would be a bit uncomfortable wrapping yourself around the steering gear there! Nice work going on, looking good apart from the column tilt malfunction.
