Just started this today.

Body shell has had a coat of Aclad undercoat and gloss black base coat. I will be painting it chrome.

Started the engine, but will update as I have clamps holding it whilst the glue sets.Clear sprue for windscreen is cracked 3 times. Any suggestions? I thought about putting a very dark smoke/black mix in with some Klear and dip it in. My aim is to have darkened windows.
Comments welcome.

Looking good. I've always wanted to do a car in Alclad chrome, just never gotten up the nerve. Proceed sir.

All chrome car, cooool.

Regarding darkening of windscreen: I have never tried it myself, but have seen some of great results with this method.

Thanks for the comments guys. Damien it will indded be shiny. Well I hope as i never used Aclad chrome before. The shell I gave a rub down and another coat of black gloss base coat. It is now ready for the Aclad chrome. The glass I hope works or it will spoil the whole show. Here is my inspiration.

I think it looks cool.

Will do some more today and update later.

The kit was £2 at a car boot sale, so can't complain about the clear sprues. But I have a cracked windscreen and one side window missing. The rear for the engine bay window is fine. I will leave that clear so you can see the engine, and darken the windscreen and side windows, and have the missing window as an open window. That way you will see the detail inside.

Later

Peter, if you've never used Alclad chrome just make sure the gloss black is absolutely slick and polished before you lay down the chrome. It'll show off every microscopic scratch and flaw there is. The car in your link was freaking beautiful.

Thanks for the heads up Herman.

Here is progress on the engine. Alclad aluminum for the engine with Tamiya gunmetal and red.

Started on the running gear and steering.

At last I got the chrome coat on. Herman you are correct every scratch shows up. I have a couple on the bonnet which I can see but other than that it looks pretty good I think. You need very little chrome to cover it, and I maybe put too much on as I think the black gives more reflection. Pretty happy with the result though and once the rest of the car is built it should look the biz.

Before I polished it.

And after. You can see the reflection on the roof pretty clear.

Thats all for now.

Outstanding job Pete! She looks really sexy wearing that chrome paint. That will be a real eye catcher on the shelf.

Thx Damien.
For those who have never used Aclad chrome, as Hermon said earlier in the post you have to polish the base coat and it needs to be black. Any scratches or imperfections do show up. Having said that airbrushing is all about prep for good results anyway. But don't be afraid of trying it. You need very little chrome paint to cover the base coat. 1/24 Audi R8 took 1/20 of the bottle if that. I will now try using chrome for my mirrors in my builds. Remember a face mask tho, it smells pretty bad lol.

Well I managed a 7 hour shift in the man cave. And alot of progress done. Most of the painting is done and some dry fitting .
The interior with seats dry fit

Engine in lower chasis

Rear parts chromed

More interior

Wheels built and painted. I didn't want chrome wheels too, so went for polished aluminum and gave them a very thin coat so they look dark.

And its all coming together, but still only dry fit. I need to gloss the interior and then very very light weather.

Maybe will get it finished tomorrow.

Comments as always welcome.
