Introduction
VW Touran "Bavarian police department" by Herpa is one of five Touran models amongst 272 Volkswagen models, and 138 choices in their Police category. This 1/87 display model is item 092104.
Parallel with the civilian variant, the new WV Touran is also released featuring the design of the Bavarian police. - Herpa

This model was introduced in the Cars & Trucks 2015 / 09-10 catalogue. (See link below.)

The Model
VW Touran Polizei is a factory assembled display model. Molding and assembly is high-quality with no flash, noticeable sprue burrs, injector marks, glue smears, nor mold seams. Herpa primarily uses injection-molded polystyrene for the body and a rubber-plastic composite for the tires.

Detail
The model is sharply molded with fine raised or recessed detail, as appropriate. Hubcaps are crisply molded and surrounded by tires with no tread detail. A pair of concave exhaust ports peek out from under the rear bumper.

Underneath the car is token chassis detail molded in relief. The body is well detailed with fine grille detail. It includes the VW emblem. Separate side view mirrors are attached but they do not have a reflective surface.

Herpa uses clear plastic for the head lamps and tinted clear for the brake lights and police flasher. The headlights are simulated with small circles molded into the lenses.

Crystal clear windows allow us to see inside the passenger compartment. It is highly detailed with a dash, console, seats, steering wheel, and an attached rear view mirror.

This little car packs a good deal of detail.

Paint and finish
I can not discern if the body is painted or molded in silver although it is very smooth and lacks the flecks visible in too many model paints.

Bavarian Police Department livery is nice with a deep green band edged with what I presume to be reflective segments. The herald of Bavaria is set on each rear door. Herpa does not use decals and the printing/painting is incredibly sharp and opaque, yet it does not obscure detail. Silver chrome appears painted on.

Conclusion
The Herpa release is a quality lil' model. Fans and collectors of German police vehicles and VW Tourans should find this neat little model to be an enjoyable addition to their collection and dioramas. Recommended.

Please remember to mention to Herpa and retailers that you saw this model here - on Auto Modeler.
