I want the seats to look like brown leather with a worn but re-conditioned look.
This is my first attempt at leather in any scale.
I don't get to this site as often as I should, but I do want to comment on how absolutely great of a job you are doing on this ride. I am learning alot just by "watching" your build. Thanks for giving inspiration!
David
I still have hopes that the project will turn out good, I just need to remind myself the goal is to always enjoy the process, improve when and where I can, but understand that if I only accept perfection, I will be detracting from the reason I build to be

Thank you, sir. I was thinking about different seats but decided on the kit supplied option.
Today I tried painting the woofers in the trunk of funk but then failed on the masking ...
I'll have to strip and re-prime on this part.

First i think the seats look great, second did you try spraying a flat coat before masking that will help seal the paint, i also use a latex mask not tape.

Thanks for the comment about the seats.
I didn't top coat with anything. I had only Sunday off this week so I tried going too fast with it. The part is soaking in oven/grill cleaner now and I'll try again.
Is the latex mask a liquid mask? Good idea, I might need to try that. Thanks for the tip.

Yes i believe most masking agents are made of liquid latex it's like the same stuff rubber gloves are made of should not be expensive, i use a latex mold builder used for making molds this stuff is very expensive but i have had it for over 5 years it will last me at least another 5 years, i paint it on with any cheap old brush 2 coats works well.

After soaking for 24 hours and gettng off work early enough, I started stripping. No, not me, the part from it's paint.
The oven/grill cleaner method works great. The paint is disolved but the styrene material is
untouched.
(gloves and eyes were used during this entire operation)
Here we are in the jar after agitation
after some picking and swishing around with an old toothbrush
part is freshly posed after scrub
part after scrub and rinse with tap water. ready for re-primer
I think I'll use
rv1963's liquid mask technique next try...

I remember when I was a little girl watching my uncle build car models and some of the things he used around the house for the construction and all the Hot Rod mags lying around house . I was hooked back then . Even though my taste have changed over the years you are doing a fantastic job on this build and I look forward to more ...........

Thank you very much for your kind words and interesting background.
I picked up models from my big brothers build them, then me playing with them like toys and breaking them. My poor bros and Dang little brothers! Anyway my dad didn't build plastic models but was very supportive of us building models and would buy them for us. As long as we finished the previous model project, he'd get us another one. Maximum 1 per month. Thanks Dad!
I don't know where my old discipline went because I have a stash of stashes with about 5 projects going on at once and actually finish about 75% of them.

Well after the first attempt and total FAIL
I tried again with a different approach and it worked.
I'll add detail paint by hand, such as the screw heads

Nice recovery is correct!! What is the color of the interior on that speaker platform? Is that the overall interior color?
What did you have in mind for the speakers themselves? Were you going to put a speaker grill over those puppies, or just leave them open? (Honestly, I don't know how its done now-a-days, but still wanted to ask!)

Thanks fellas.
The color will be OD. The speakers will be left as seen here.
Some lifted cars for shows are themes. This is going to be Seabees "We Build, We Lift, Can Do" or something like that.
TacFireGuru, I still don't see any around here, except for one last year. I think it was a Chevelle.
