that would be perfect here

Quoted Text

I agree! That car is essential to this campaign!

Quoted Text

Randy, I agree with Ko and Sean. Perfect! Go for it

Thank you KoSprueOne, Sean and Charlie. Since it isn't a campaign specific build I wasn't sure. Thanks

(although I was looking forward to your VW)!

I was wanting to build it but.....been having some real life issues and have lost interest in a lot of things and my modeling as really taken the brunt of it. I am hoping that this build might get the fires rekindled.

Thanks again everyone.

Randy and Littorio, I made a Mad Max/ post-apocalyptic police car back a few years ago too. I guess every modeler is inspired by those movies.

Those cars were awesome. Definitely a motivator for my Zombie Killer Cop Car. I feel that the Mad Max series of movies were definitely overlooked by the modeling companies out there. To me it would have been a huge market. Especially now with the new movie coming out as well as the new video game.

I remember seeing Randy's Cop Car at the end of the EOD campaign because he parked it in front of a Doughnut Shop and I almost peed myself laughing (sometimes it doesn't take much).

Couldn't resist taking that photo....even in the apocalypse the cops & donuts stereotype still exists!! Well......they do say that artists take great pleasure in seeing their art bring joy to others!! Glad my photo had an effect on you!!

Thanks Sean and Charlie.

Going further, I just found this Road & Track magazine online article about a 1:1 model of the game car. The article writer is very disappointed that they used a Ford Maverick to build this one.

Finally got started on the Interceptor. I have these same pictures in my blog but I thought I would show some of them here as well to show my progress.

So I am off and running. I hope to have a few more in-progress photos to share soon.

Hey fellow model builders - I just came across this thread - cool. Is it too late to join? I'll need a couple of weeks to get started - I'm close to wrapping up a build on Armorama - this campaign looks like great fun tho!

I've got a 1/32 scale ford pick up body....and plenty of ideas - a high speed, off road gun truck, but clearly not a technical pickup - and not looking too stock when it's all said and done either -

What do you think?

Thanks

Sounds great! As a relative newcomer, remember to read the rules-- post a beginning photo of the raw kit and proof of the date, then dive in, posting photos along the way-- hopefully you'll have ideas we can share, or obstacles that others have been through before.
Actually Wolfsangel is driving this bus, I'm just another happy passenger.
I have to get crackin' on my own build again too (but I've had a recent breakthrough in my model railroad, and I'm riding that momentum at the moment.)
Cheers!

Ok Sean - will do - and, no offense intended toward Wolfsangel -
I'll formally sign in...

Next - take some pics of my "kit" - it will be the body of the truck - then, cutting, scratch build + trips to the box-o-odds and ends, and evergreen box!! I'll really get going on this in the next couple of weeks - I'm very close to finishing another project, but man, are they ever done?!?? Yes! I will finish it and get moving on this!
Cheers

Hello - well, I signed up, and was motivated to get going on this - After seeing Randy's post, I thought why not get going (nice work at that!!) -

First tho, to be official, the "kit" before the knife, file, and fill - starting date/week on the header of a local paper:

And there you have one Ford pickup body - the box says 1/32, but it looks bigger to me?? -

Anyway - bigger or not, time to start working:

Some fundamental changes needed to happen to this truck body - first, fill in, or reshape the giant fender wells - This body went on a monster truck...ok, that's fine, but not what I want for this build....next, extend the cab - by the time I get seats, roll bar, engine, dash board etc in the cab....a bit more room will help - so, the back of the cab was cut off along the seam of the door opening, and strips of styrene added, and the whole thing glued back together.

Next - more mods to the body - boxing out fender wells, framing in front window, and up-armoring the doors:

You can see, a few trips to the etch sprue graveyard and evergreen stuff - that is how I generally plan to go for this build...I'm not sure about the engine yet - but, there will be one -

Next post might be a while - I WILL finish the Armorama dio!!! - then back to the races!

thanks for having a look

cheers,

Nick

Hello - - I'm making a bit of a change in my course - this truck is turning into a fun build, so, finishing the dio project will wait!

I've kept working on the body, and tackled the engine compartment. This truck will be two wheel drive - but with long travel suspension - the engine will be setback, and A-arms for the front suspension mounted below and slightly forward - the rearend will be multi-link swing arm of some sort

Ok enough - have a look:

With the "skin" on the body, the previous images might make more sense - you can also see the start of basic armament - the base for a CROWS II (remote controlled weapon) on the roof, toward the rear of the cab. I've though about some kind of gun in the bed with a GPK - but, that might just look ridiculous - maybe not - I don't know yet....maybe??

Also - you can see an engine, firewall, and fundamentals of the frame -

Below - how it ties together:

It's getting there - the engine is placed closer to the center of the truck - a bit like an off road racer -it gives me room to build the suspension and the appearance of lots of wheel travel (no it's not going to work - maybe steer, but not up and down) The engine is from CMK HMMWV - my version of course would not include a diesel - gas powered, high horse power V8!plenty of room in there!

Ok - thanks for having a look!

cheers

Sean, HOW DARE YOU USURP MY AUTHORITY AS THE GRAND HIGH POOBAH OF THIS BUILD!
FOR YOUR BRAZEN LACK OF AUTHORITY YOUR PUNISHMENT IS TO STICK YOUR FINGERS TOGETHER WITH CYANOACRYLATE ESTER (Superglue for the un-technical of us) IMMEDIATELY!

Seriously, thanks for watching the shop. My business has tripled in the last month and, being a one man show, has me as busy as a one-eyed dog in a smokehouse. One correction though: The traditional time/date stamp isn't necessary for this campaign. This is an artistic interpretation and exercise in imagination, not a race against the clock and if you want to cheat yourself of the experience and the expertise of your fellow modelers then you don't get it anyway. Kinda like my 17 year old.

As for the build: I see wickedness brewing!
Nick, love the scratch-building. That's dedication to a vision.

Randy, you need to ask for commissions because I know you sold at least 1 of their kits for them. Gotta get one now.

Sean, did your "RR breakthrough" have anything to do with electrical?

Paul, my opinion of the new Mad Max cars is they're kinda cartoonish.
More like "Art Cars" than functional Death-Dealers that we're building. What do y'all think?

When y'all have time, check this out: http://wastelandweekend.com/

Hey Charlie, and other model builders -

Dedication eh??? nice way of putting it! - hmmm....well, I spent some time over the weekend on this truck, so far so good

The fundamentals of the frame and driveline are in place - the best news - It sits flat on all four corners! I've found that to be easier said than done!

have a look:

you can see the long lower "A" arms up front - I'm going to add some material to the lower A arms - they look pretty thin to me! then shocks - it steers....the rear end is swing arm and trailing arms/links + shocks etc....

from these two you can get a pretty good idea of what's going on - there will be a roll cage inside - like what you see in the engine compartment - then more body work....etc etc...

thanks for having a look

cheers

Ha! I knew you'd approve. I'll probably stick my fingers together before this is over anyway.
This railroad breakthrough had to do with base materials (and finally clearing off the framework so I could get to it), but yes, electrical is still looming out there to be done.
I've been eyeballing the started Deathrace car on the workbench every so often, and it's calling me each day...
and Nick, fantastic work so far! Glad to see it!

I made a couple of Death Race-inspired models for my son's Warhammer Ork army a while back, using 1/32 and 1/35 car and truck models. Can I put those forward? I've uploaded photos but I can't work out how to link them to this post.

Hello -

Sean and Hakan - thanks! fun so far - Hakan - the body is 1/32 scale from a snap kit. The tires/wheels are from the 1/35 scale Legend MaxxPro kit - left over from another build.

I'm still pushing along with my ford pickup - adding roll bar and suspension details - please have a look:

The frame etc is getting there also , some more work on the body:

It's coming along - I really don't like the scratch built rear gunners seat - so, it will be replaced!

still some work to go, but paint soon!

cheers

Hello -

Thanks for looking KoSprueOne! this has been a fun build!

A few updates - Paint!

a few more trips to the "unclaimed" box and here you have the makings of an interior - some 1/32 scale seats - sorry about the angle - you can't really see the paint - harnesses, buckles etc - they look pretty good - some radio gear, floor shifter, steering wheel and dash board gauges etc....as usual the bummer is, once the body is on -you'll never see most of this stuff!

thanks for having a look

Nick
