Hi all.
Since our friend Harv enquired about my old sparring partner VonCuda recently, it was inevitable that the centuries old traditional rivalry would be raised. Then Jesper (Hwa-Rang) raised the topic of the Group Build that we started back in late February 2011. It really doesn't seem like it was that long ago, but I have been thinking about it for the past few days, and reading back over the LEAD-UP DISCUSSION THREAD and the GROUP BUILD THREAD, and I would really like to have another go at this as a Group Build .
We had some real fun in the threads, but last Group Build attempt didn't see a great result for a number of reasons. I personally think it deserves better and would be happy to lead another battleground - sorry - Group Build.
I think that we came up with a very solid set of rules for the first session, you can see them on the GROUP BUILD PAGE HERE, and I would suggest we run for 12 months again starting January 1 2015.
I have even thought about what I would like to build, and if we go ahead I will put a personal spin on my builds and do both cars from the year of my birth
Anyway, I've had my say. I'm going to email Hermon (VonCuda) and see if I can coax him out of retirement.
Cheers, D
P.S. Chev rules, always has and always will !

Great idea, I would join. Being an armor guy I am not particularly well versed in these softskin car thingies. I would build both a Vette and a Mopar. My question is, what kits are good? I am interested in the classic 65-70s period.
*does anyone make a circa 56 Impala kit? I have an idea which is way too good...

Thanks for chiming in guys, great to see some interest already!
Yes Jim, you would need to build one from each camp to qualify. I'm happy to include trucks because I'm sure that the rivalry would carry through to the big rigs. That is why I would propose a 12 month Group Build, to give us plenty of time to build two kits as well as maximum opportunity to harangue and insult each other (good natured of course, nothing personal will be accepted).
Cheers, D

Hmm. This gives me an excuse to get that Revell of Germany Chevrolet Impala PPV that just came out. Looks like a good kit, too.

arpikaszabo - Italeri Chevrolet 15CWT kit# 6233 http://www.hobbiesguinea.com/images/IT6233.jpg
or Tamiya Quad Gun Tractor kit# 35045 https://www.whiteensignmodels.com/uploads/site/products/p_o315v/img_TA35045.jpg might be a military option in this build
If AussieReg allows
You might find a '56 Impala in resin. Plastic '56 Chevys are the Bel Air and Nomad models… I think
I'm interested in this GB.
Does any GM company vehicle count into the Chevy side or specifically Chevrolet only?

Sounds interesting. Would military vehicles be permitted. I was thinking of WW2 15CWT CMP(Chevrolet Military Pattern) truck vs Dodge WC series.

Hmm, I guess I'll really have to dig thru the stash. Think I have 4 Fords (2 with wings), a '57 Pontiac, a 2009 Challenger, but if I've got any Chebbys they're 1/72 tank or cargo trucks... If I'm in it's with the new Challenger. I guess if dug around enough maybe I could find a TBM or an FM-1 or 2.

Well if it's going to go on for a whole year, I guess I could maybe manage to blow the dust off a kit or two.

Paging Staff_Jim. What this place really needs is a Like button.
Hermon, glad to see you around. Take care, maybe this time I'll even build a model in your honor.
OH, double cool, that's my 3000th post.

Aw, shucks, reunited and it feels so good.
Count me in. I had been fading out, but this is too good to miss! I know what I want to build-- now to see if the Local Hobby Shop still has them or can get them.
Welcome Back, Hermon
Congrats on the milestone, Mark
Cheers!

Fwiw, I jump around Kitmaker a lot, but this was my 500th in AeroScale!

Glad that I was able to help. Guess that for once maybe I instigated something that is a good thing?? I'm not really much of a car modeler but I am glad that I was part of the cause for a campaign/group build. Even though I won't be taking part, I will be following along to watch the builds. Plus.....I would hate to miss out on any punches thrown between Herman and Damian!!

Excellent(Must be read wih a Montgomery Burns voice)
First comes the taunting, then the insults and the general ridiculing of the other side. Should be fun.
Oh I almost forgot, try to build something too.

I went inside my man cave/model room tonight for the first time in a few months. It looks like a tornado hit the place and there are literally cobwebs hanging from the ceiling. I have nearly 200 bottles of various paints and the 30 or 40 I checked were all dried up.
Anyhoo....I have another 5 months to sort it all out before the build starts. Perhaps by then Cheverolet will design a car worth modeling.

Use the dried up ones on your Hemi build, it will be a vast improvement over their normal appearance!
Ok folks, it begins. In response to a few earlier posts:
Darrell, I am happy to accept the Chev vs Dodge military truck builds, because it will just show another area where Chev is undeniably superior.
Mark, the Pontiac counts because we are really interested in powerplants and parent companies, and also because my family has always had old Pontiacs!
Robert (Beauslx), sorry mate, you will need to build one of each to qualify. The benefit to you is that the Chev will improve the aesthetics of your display cabinet immeasurably.
I picked up my '67 Corvette kit yesterday in anticipation of this thing being a starter. I'm still having trouble handing over money for a Hemi kit. I think I will do a bit of dumpster diving behind the local hobby stores, I'm sure that's where most of them end up when they can't sell them.
Cheers (and looking forward to the replies),
D

If military vehicles are included then I am definitely signing up. Where is the dotted line.

Let's face it, the way I'm going to improve my display cabinet is by placing FORD like this one in it.
I do have a Camaro that I picked up at a second hand store, the body's already been hand painted, It might look just like factory stock... Now let me check my paint supply and see if I have any Chevy Engine Rust in stock...

Big D,
Since Dodge and Pontiac are inclusive, Cadillac (GM) is ok too?
I think I need to pick a side for this build because I never have before. I've seen the fights at the local derbies (1/4 mile and 1/2 mile dirt track, web search for metric conversions) but never got it, and never got involved for that matter.
This is going to be good

G'day KSO
Caddies are fine, which model are you planning?
Yeah, fence-sitting is definitely banned. You MUST sit on one side or the other, but build one of each.
Correct !
Cheers, D

I suppose I could swallow my pride enough to build a PONTIAC. Or how about an Olds 442?
You do know the Chevy's design inspiration is a used cardboard box with duct tape wrapped around it right?

Hi Darrell.
No dotted line as such just yet, but from the amount of interest shown already I don't think we will have much trouble convincing the Auto Admin Superpowers to accept our proposal.
I have copied and modified the basic rules from our previous Group Build below to apply to this proposal, please take a look and throw in any thoughts or comments you may have. I want this to appeal to as many as possible to get the most out of it for everybody. Please remember that this was originally a muscle car Group Build, but I think we can allow civil and military trucks prvided they fit the basic requirements.
The Rules and Regs
1. Run Time January 1 2015 to December 31 2015 (Date applies to your local time)
2. Manufacturer Based - Chev/Pontiac/Caddy vs Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge (plus alts if accepted)
3. 8- and 6-cylinder powerplants allowed, put up a 4 and you might get run over
4. Any scale, any era, stock/street/mild/wild/trucks allowed
5. OOB or modified allowed
6. Any number of builds allowed, just one ribbon per person
7. VonCuda and I are Co-leaders, since we get along so well. If one of us is absent, the other will make any calls required
8. Sniping is allowed, expected, and in fact required, but please don't let it get personal.
9. All enlisted MUST relax, have fun and enjoy their builds. This is a hobby.
Addendum - New Rule
10. Due to the fact that the Mopar guys now realize that Chev's really are better, and we Chev guys feel sympathy for the Mopar fans, all participants shall now be required to build one of each to qualify for a ribbon.
Once we get this part sorted to the satisfaction of the masses, I will put a formal proposal to Admin.
Cheers, D
