Damian,

Talk about a oldie. MY God, I was only 6 when the '53 hit the showroom sales floor.

Love how you matched the color paint to the photograph. Looks really close on my screen.

Russ, thanks for checking in mate. As I always say, you can't rush perfection! In my case, you can't rush it and you can't reach it!

Joel, I just love the old 'Vettes, 50s and 60s body styles are my favourites. Thanks for looking in on my build here.

Cheers, D

That leather looks good. Almost as good as the "Fine Corinthian Leather" they used to put in Chryslers.

I read somewhere that Chev donated their rejected seconds upholstery stock to Chrysler as a gesture of compassion. Chrysler used it in their top of the line vehicles quite proudly!

The Stingray was my favorite body style. But I'd take a Cobra 289SC any day of the week. Of course it wasn't exactly a street car by any means.

I've lost count of the hours I've put in repairing the threads that were stuffed by the recent Photobucket antics. Tonight I sorted this one out because I hope to finish this build of as the second part of my "Garage Queens" efforts this year.

Very cool! I am working on the same kit but boxed in 1982 with red plastic. I mostly build aircraft, armor, ships & Sci-Fi so I am kinda struggling with this Vette. Mostly painting issues - probably using spray cans that were too old & it being 40 degrees(F) outside!

G'day Russ! Thanks for checking in, this one is in a holding pattern while I finish my '59 Eldorado Biarritz. I am dedicating this year to finishing a bunch of Auto Garage Queens as well as getting a handle on the procedures of being a staff member once again.

Calvin, nice clean work on your 'Vette. What colour is the body work? I will be following your thread for this build, looking forward to progress shots.

Damian,
Nice to see your Vette back on the bench. Will be following along as anything called a sports car interests me. Of course I also like Pony cars as well.

Nice Vette so far. I built this kit a few years ago. The Corvette and I are the same "age". Both '53 classics. Anymore progress?---John

Now that my '56 Bel Air Hardtop is off the bench and on display, it's time to have attempt #3 at getting this one finished. After all, it's only been 5 years since I unboxed it

I checked over the progress so far, and the sub assemblies as they are now look good. A quick inventory shows a couple of small parts missing from the underside, but nothing I can't quickly replace with some styrene stock or sprue.

I masked up the dashboard and spent some time sanding off body mould lines and filling a couple of sink holes, and it's about ready to throw some primer on it.

Progress shots once primer is on and cured.

D,
3rd time is charm time, as you'll surely get it finished in grand style, especially since you've been turning out a Bowie after Bowtie build. But just remember that the Ford Blue Oval is right around the corner.

Charlie,
Why not post some pictures of your Vette build to date. I'm sure that there's a few guys here that can offer some ideas and advice that can help you over that hump.

Hi Charlie. As Joel said, post up some photos and explain where you hit a block and I'm sure a solution will be found from the team here!

Its mostly the door cards that are the source of confusion. I will see if I can grab some pictures.

Hi Charlie.

Below is probably the best of my reference images to show the interior door card, and how it ties in with the dashboard top and IP.

On the kit part below, there is an unpainted area and I have drawn a bright green line on the image. Below the line on the unpainted area is the exterior body colour, above the line matches the dashboard top and lower door card.

I spent a bit of time tinkering with the 3-piece headlight assembly, it took some sanding and trimming to get the outer glass to fit neatly, but it's all done and glued in place with Testor's Clear Parts Cement now.

Cheers, D

D,
Looking real good. Just one question, I've never used Testors Clear glue, is it like White glue or more like CA, or even Extra Thin?

Hi Joel. It is white glue, water based, and dries perfectly clear. Some folks I have seen use it to create small windows in aircraft and ship builds. I apply it with a fine brush and also use it as a gap filler around badly fitting clear parts.

Cheers, D
