No word on approval from the Powers That Be. Getting a little concerned here.

Jim

Hi Jim.

According to his profile page, James Bella (C5FLIES) hasn't been online here since early May this year. I have sent him a couple of PM requests that haven't been read yet. Perhaps we need to go to a higher authority to see if we can get things moving.

I hope James is OK.

Cheers, D

That is concerning. I hope he's ok, too. Aren't there any other Group Build Administrators that could approve the Group Build? I know they are getting approved over on AeroScale & Armorama.

Unfortunately I think they need to be site specific admin staff. I can approve and set up Group Builds over on the P-47 SIG site, but not here. Maybe I should put my hand up to be an emergency admin here as well ???

It might pay to send a PM to Jim Starkweather (staff_Jim) to see what he can do.

I've enlisted, but I think the dates on the Group Build page are incorrect, otherwise we have already started!

Likewise, I signed up, assuming the dates will be pushed back. I won't be able to start before 2016.

I'm glad Jim approved the Group Build, but those weren't the dates I submitted. I'll see if he can change them, or at least find out why he did what he did.

What the heck, I might as well get right outside my comfort-zone and join the "speed build" .
Sorry, but no chrome or fins on my proposed build (hint - British icon). Found some wheels in the spare's bin - so I'm good to go .

Damian.
Here's a another hint, think of the TV program "Father Ted" and the hapless Father Dougal and 4 MPH .

I'm hoping to find something on the shelf at the hobby shop. Isn't there a new Oldsmobile model with a decent amount of chrome? Maybe that. Of course those Hudson's look really good too.
Sorry, no specific answer for you.

The plan right now is to do a 1957 Ford Custom as a Fire Chief's car. We'll see how that goes.

I have a PM into Jim Starkweather to see if he can change the dates for the campaign to April 2016 through October 2016 (I think that's what I originally requested). I'll keep you posted on that. If he can't change the dates, maybe we'll just do our own thing.

Anyone have any ideas for a Group Build Ribbon? I'm fresh out of ideas.

The Group Build dates are now April 1, 2016, through October 31, 2016. That should give everyone time to plan their build & stock up on Bare Metal Foil or Alclad II (or both)!

Jim, for following up on the dates etc.
Gives me some more time to hunt around the archives to find another suitably obscure 50's vehicle .
Have decided I'm going to continue with the "speed build" project , will give me a chance to get some more painting practise (I need it ).

Great. A timeframe more suitable for me
Got a few 50's cars in my stash, to choose from.
'53 Hudson
'58 Cadillac
'59 Cadillac
'59 Impala
'55 Bel air
'58 Plymouth
'55 Chrysler
'59 fairlane
The Hudson is my #1 choice, so much I have ordered paint, for it, today. Could still change my mind though.

I think the new/old dates will work better for everyone all around. Thanks for the beer, Roger. That's not a Fosters, is it?

Jesper, I've been thinking of the '53 Hornet as well. I just seem to like that car, but I'm going to stick with the '57 Ford.

So, does anyone have any ides on a Group Build Ribbon? We have some time, but it's always a good idea to get started early!

After a hunt around the archives I've come up with a couple of "interesting" vehicles of the 50's, at the moment I'm leaning towards this little gem:

However if not the above, then the build will be of something in a similar vein

It reminds me of the Messerschmitt KR175 and KR200 3-wheelers from the '50s.

It would be cool to see that one built for this Group Build.

,
I'm shocked that you didn't instantly recognise it Jim .
It's a 1955 Inter 175A Berline.
Here's a brief bit of for ya:
Inter

Just having a hunt around for some suitable wheels. If I can't find any (too lazy to scratch build some this time) I may head to Option 2 = 1959 Velorex Oskar,
and here's another bit of light :
Velorex

Hi ya Damian,
yep, built on the same design principles as the Messerschmitt KR175 and KR200. I think it was Hasegawa that put out a 1/24th kit of the KR200 many many years ago, would love to get my grubby mitts on one of those kits but alas they are now only in the reach of serious kit collectors or lottery winners .
Aside from the wheels it will be a complete scratch build. I'll vac-form the body and fenders, so fairly basic stuff.
If I choose Option 2, then things get a bit more interesting with the steel frame, I'll most likely do it in brass rod. However I do have some very nice 'leatherette' that would make a nice covering .
Shush - but I might sneak in a couple of practise vac-forms before the start date.
