I could be wrong but I swear I've seen a 7UP racer before.

....
I wish that Tamiya had a market that would support more large scale racing units in many different categories. I would love to see the Benneton or the cars that were in the 7Up livery as well as some of the other cars like Toleman. I know it is a niche market but having some of the later more popular Ferraris from the Schumacher era would also be cool.

Will be looking forward to following this!

Patrick,

Mr. Tamiya was the driving force behind the 1/12 scale F1 cars that they molded. the price alone compared to what the 1/25,1/24, and 1/20 scale cars turned many auto modelers off, and hence poor world wide sales.

Tamiya did mold quite a lot of F-1 cars in 1/20 scale, but the days of 1/12 scale seem to be over except for the limited run white metal cars, and those kits costs hundreds of dollars, yet sell out. For Tamiya to mold a new 1/12 scale F1 car from any era, and bring it up to today's detail standards, I wouldn't be surprised to see a MSRP of well over $500. I can't imagine to many modelers ready to pay those prices.

The head of Ebbro who is slowly releasing 1/20 scale F-1 ( and now F-2) cars, was I believe the head of Tamiya's model auto division as such. So far no mention of anything larger then 1/20, but at least we're getting cars from past eras, and that's where my interest are. Same for the Champ/Cart/Indy cars.

I don't much care for the cars of today, but would kill for both the Gurney '67 F-1 Spa car, and any Gurney Eagle that ran Indy in 1/20 scale.

Joel

Moving along at a snails pace:-

Fuel tank and rollbar frame added.

Rear brake calipers added.

Exhaust parts de-chromed and painted Tamiya chrome which is a little duller than the plated parts.

Next part to be de-chromed.

Richard,
Slow but steady is just fine, as you will eventually cross the finish line. All too many models are rushed and never get there.

Almost all of the "chromed" parts such as the suspension, roll bar assembly are polished steel. the exhaust was just plain old steel tubing.

Your Ford Cosworth DFV engine really looks quite good.
