Hi all roymattblack sent this model to cheer my missus up in her recuperation.

First off let me say this may take quite a while as looking after Pam takes a lot of my time, but things should get easier as she recovers.

This model does not have a sun roof as Herbie does so that's the first thing to tackle  (luckily I did the samba bus a while ago with the sun roof open, it was a little too wide and long and a little too flat but nothing that can't be fettled)

Hello Ken,

Interesting build. I hope the missus is doing well.
There seems to be some debate on the year of Herbie in some online forums. Here's an example:

http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_2765-Volkswagen-Sun-Roof-Sedan-Typ-1-1963.html

Some are saying '57, one states his '59 was used. Who knows. Not sure if your going for accuracy.

Anyways, have fun with it either way.

See ya in the funnies..........

I feel for those of you who don't know I should explain what happened to pam, the night after we got back from the holiday that picture was taken from, pam lept out of bed with cramp in her leg then decided she needed a pee, I heard a loud bang ran to the bathroom to find her unconscious on the floor with blood pouring from her head I phoned an ambulance and after about 5 mins she came round but was very confused, after a blue lights ride to the hospital I found out she had broken her back and had concussion (they think she fainted from dehydration from the holiday)

Hi thanks for the concern, she is making slow progress, still in a lot of pain but she should make a full recovery (assuming she dose as she's told (she is very stubborn and doesn't like laying still))

Yes, I'm hoping she has a quick recovery too. Convince her to listen to the doctor's orders!
Also, yes, the VW build is looking very good.
All the best,
Sean

Hi all pam is progressing well, I stupidly sliced the top of my thumb off the other day, right through the nail it was hanging on by a thin bit of skin I could see the bone, I couldn't go to A and E as I had no one to look after Pam so I put it back in place and bandaged it up, this is how it looked the next day.

The following day pam said her ear was bleeding so I didn't want to take any chances with a head injury and decided to take her to the GP got her in the car, took the handbrake off and forgot about my thumb and bashed it on the handbrake surround, the pain was incredible, I thought I would pass out I felt sick and of course it started bleeding, anyway I sucked it up and took her to the GP the nurse was checking her ears out and must have thought I looked a bit pale because she asked if I was OK so pam told her what happened so she checked it out and said I had opened it up again and redressed it telling me off for not going to A and E in the first place, apparently pam grazed her ear canal in the fall and that's why her hearing aids were not working properly her ear canal was full of blood, she was extremely lucky really a little harder or maybe hitting the bath at a different angle and she could have been permanently paralysed and burst her ear drums and been completely deaf, obviously it would have been better for it not to have happened at all, but it could have been far, far, worse.

Ken,
The Love Bug is looking great! I've been following at a distance, but had to write after you explained about your Misses-- for what it's worth, you can recover from a broken back-- my wife broke hers in 1974, and she runs circles around me now sometimes, but it's an injury she'll be reminded of for a long time, especially in the winter. As for your thumb-- I've suffered similar injuries-- I think here on Kitmaker there was a thread discussing such modeling mishaps. Many times I've used elevation to stop the bleeding, then given the "separated parts" a glue treatment of cyanoacrylate super glue-- it helps to seal the wound and keeps oxygen from the nerves, reducing pain somewhat. It's not for everyone though-- and should never be used with the "kickers" or "hardeners" as those will generate up to 400 degrees of heat. The Love Bug looks good-- keep posting and I hope all goes well for both of you.

Ken,
Looks really great, and the base and Herbie "taking off" positioning add a lot to the model. Hope she likes it- I do!
