In the Scalemates database it is the simple press of a button to move a kit from “Stash” to “Started”, and as soon as I remove any parts from the sprue I push that button. If I pick up a second hand kit that has parts off sprue or any minor work done then I list it as started as well. The started kits are anywhere from a couple of parts off the sprue to 90% complete. I am determined to work on a minimum 2:1 ratio (complete at least 2 old WIP for each new start/completion) to whittle this down.
It will be very interesting to see how the old paint stands up to a couple of top coats.

A little progress here, I primed the interior parts with Mr Surfacer 1500 Grey, then gave them a coat of an eyeballed custom mix of Italian Red and about 10% Wine Red to give it some richness.

Wow, I can almost smell the leather, that looks like the original Caddy red interior. Did you use a different mix on the dash?

Thanks Mark. The dash is the same colour, just darker from the direction of lighting.
Masked and sprayed the silver trim, next is some detail brush painting and then a thin wash and filter.

Thanks Michael, but I think that "manage" might not be the best word to describe the chaos that is my WIP catalogue !!
It didn't even occur to me about the red/silver crossover with the '36. Luckily this is just the interior, the body will be gloss black. Still, a side-by-side would be interesting.

Thanks Jesper, I just kept adding the Wine Red drop by drop until I hit something that I like. I made up a bit extra and stored it in a spare jar in case I need to re-do anything.

I wasn't happy with the finish I got using the MRP Super Gloss Black, most likely user error as I've seen it looking amazing on a few builds, so I gave it a good wet sand all over and hosed on some SMS Jet Black.
A couple of days to cure then I will give it a buff with a soft cloth and see how it looks.

I don't remember the original thread, so I read through it from start to present. Even I love those old Caddies. Damn, were they big or what.
The engine, suspension and chassis really looks up to your usual standard, especially the custom Red leather. The seats really do look like leather.
As for the Gloss Black, some reason I use to have a great deal of difficulty air brushing it too. Honestly, 9 out of 10 issues was with my procedures.
I'm not a big fan of Tamiya Acrylic Lacquers for a gloss paint job as the large pigments just seem to be the major issue for me. Mr. Color paints thin beautifully and go on super smooth. Given the option I still like Gravity and Zero paints as they're true lacquers and will flow on when applied correctly.

You're doing a great job. I built this kit when it first came out and it was at that time the best kit I'd ever built. It holds up to scrutiny after all this time, and I just may build another one in the future. The one I built is pink, and I still have it in very good condition.

I tried out a new product tonight and I must say I really like this one! I've been looking for a good chrome paint that is easily brushable to pick out the little details on the car builds, and this one certainly ticks all of the boxes. It is a water-based acrylic, a very nice chrome finish, and it brushes beautifully straight out of the bottle.
My brush cleaned up straight away in cold water, and any little errors were easily tidied up with a toothpick dipped in water, which didn't do any damage to the lacquer paint underneath.
This will definitely be spending a lot of time on my bench with all of the chrome on my current crop of builds

That dash looks amazing Damian. Gotta love those classic US dashboards, from the 50's and 60's.

I need to echo the words above, your interior work looks great! And, that Vallejo product - I’ve been using their metallic series for a while, and just found out about the product you used here - I’m sold - I’ve been looking at the burnt metal series - I think I’ll add that chrome too!

Thanks for the feedback guys, very much appreciated. Next step is a bit of a black pin wash, using highly thinned Tamiya enamel. I will give it a couple of days to cure fully then get some more photos.

Interior tub assembled, and a first pass with the black pin wash. I will let this cure tonight and then tidy it up with a Q-tip dampened with odourless mineral spirits tomorrow night, then see if it needs further work.
I am still really impressed with this kit. No fit or moulding issues at all so far. A dream to put together compared to my recent run of builds.

Hi Jesper. Yes, I always study a few different sets of images for reference before I get started, and you are correct, the top and sides of the armrests should be interior colour. I just thought that I would add some extra bling to this one.
Here is one of my reference shots, and looking at it now I need to paint the chrome trim on the door lights at the back end of the arm rest. Still not enough chrome!
