Happy New Year folks!

Time to open the gates on this years Garage Queen Group Build. If anybody wants to put their hand up to run the Group Build, let me know. If not, I am happy to do it.

I think the Rules and Regs from the 2018 Group Build cover it:
1. Kit must have been started.
2. Any scale, any type from any of AutoModeler's sections.
3. Must post a starting picture to the campaign thread.
4. Must post a picture of the finished build in the Garage Queens 2019 campaign gallery.

Who is up for it? I have a shameful pile of unfinished builds that really need attention. Any of the 2018 in-progress Garage Queens can be re-entered for 2019.

Garage Queens 2019 Group Build enlistment page

Garage Queens 2019 Group Build Gallery

Lets get these things done and on the display shelf where they belong!

Cheers, D

Guys, I'll gladly pick the glove, but I have no "sleeping beauty"!
I'll be stalking you though, no worries about that.

Awesome, that's a great start guys.

I've updated my profile banner to 2019 if anybody wants to use it on their profile to promote across the network. If you need help working out how to load it please let me know.

I'm thinking my big Caddy from last year can stay in the garage for a while longer, I might join Jesper with a '55 Chev Nomad, but mine is being converted to an El Camino. Body work is started, will post up images soon. I also have a '55 Chev Convertible started, both of these for my
Tri-Five Series Build . I would really love to get some progress on these.

Gabriel, are you putting you hand up to run the Group Build this year? If so, can you please put in a submission so that I can get it set up? Please let me know if you need help putting it together.

Looking forward to watching (and this time participating in) another year of Auto builds!

Cheers, D

How do you get that image in on your profile? I have tried two different file sharing sites and nothing.

So, I'm guessing that there isn't a campaign sign up button, we just announce on this page, with a photo and we're in.
Will there be a Garage Queen 2019 Gallery, or so we need to put them in the 2018 one per rule #4?

BTW, once I get home, I'll post my Camaro.

Hi Charlie.
To load the banner to your profile, the easiest way is to load it to your Kitmaker Gallery. Once it is loaded, go to the "settings" button top right of the screen, then "modify profile" on the next page.

About half way down the "Update your Profile" page is a box where you can copy and paste in the URL for the banner from your gallery. Save the changes at the bottom and you should be ok. I will try to do some screen shots and post if required.

G'day Mark. I will post a links to the Group Build sign-up page and gallery once they are created, in the meantime just post up here as you can and consider yourself in the game.

Cheers, D

Would an Armor subject be acceptable as long as it is truly an automobile? (Prewar Dodge 4x4 Command Car in resin.)

Being difficult, I right clicked on the one in your post, told it to open the image in a new window, Copied the address. Went to my profile page and Pasted the address in the banner block on my profile page and Viola, it updated my posts.

Time to post up my starting shots. Kit is AMT 1/25 '55 Nomad

In the kit has a pre-made roofline and tray bed for conversion to an El Camino, but I wasn't really happy with the lines so I set about chopping and sanding to get what I liked.

I have a bit of body work to do to smooth out the rear window surrounds but I'm happy with the look so far. My aim with this build is for a maintained but well-used work truck, maybe flat black or pale blue.

Damian, I'll be honored. I need advice, you bet! Also you might want to note that this year is going to be a little chaotic in my side - I'm travelling to Europe for three months (April - July) and a half and I have no idea how things are going to be for me while in Europe or after my return in Caribbean.

Damian - thanks for the acceptance - this is the vehicle I am interested in working on and perhaps this thread can get me motivated to get moving again and wrap this one up.

I think I met Wespe's age requirements.

I am always big on adding additional details to the underbody like the bead rolls in the
cabin floor pan and the running board support brackets.

Considering the question - could I build a canvas top for this car using very thin material that Tamiya calls "styrene paper".

Have not been a "car guy" since high school but that Chevy Nomad/El Camino conversion might just bring me out of retirement!

That is a project my "Chop-Shop" would love to get their hands on!

Does the box art even mention the El Camino option? I was never aware of this one!

Great stuff here.

No excuse for me not finishing this one in that I have the original, completely restored inspiration living not 10 blocks from my house right here in town!

The military Dodge is a 4x4 but I think if I won the lottery I would have to jump on buying this sweet "market delivery" panel van. (A panel van with no panels - sorry don't know exactly what to call it.)
By the way, both these trucks are pre-WWII. The Command Car design shown here was actually the prototype for what has now come to be known as the Dodge Power Wagon series of trucks.

Alrighty! I tried that one, but I did it again to be sure. Maybe I am the only one who can't see it.

No, you're not the only one, I'm seeing the broken picture icon in your signature block.
Here's what I put in mine to get Damien's block onto my signature block.

Ok guys, we got this one rolling along nicely already!

First up, an apology to Gary Kato, somehow I totally missed that he had already posted up a GQ19 proposal thread before I put this one up. We have spoken via PM and he is happy that we carry on with this thread.

Next point of order, Gabriel has put his hand up to be the Group Build Leader, thank you sir! We will work on getting an official enlistment page and gallery set up and link here once it is done.

Mark, it will be great to see that Camaro rolling out of the shop and onto the street mate!

Michael, those are some awesome images and a cool looking kit. You are extremely lucky to have such gems close by, not only for reference material, but just to sit and watch! For the canvas top, I would suggest searching some tutorials on using normal tissue paper and thinned PVA over a thin wire frame. I have seen this used to great effect for a variety of canvas and fabric materials. Once dried, it paints up beautifully and has a nice texture.

With regard to the Nomad kit, there is a small side panel on the box that mentions the roof conversion.

The kit part provided replaces about 2/3 of the remaining roofline once you cut the wagon roof section off, and I just don't like the raised lines. Also, marking, cutting and blending perfectly on such a visible large surface would give me cold sweats and nightmares!!

Cheers, D

Damian, As it happens I think AMT's conversion of the El Camino is not all that classy. IMHO it is YOUR version that is the real keeper !*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!*!

Michael, I'm in awe with the way you managed so far with that WESPE Models kit. I have the BMW 309 Kfz. 2 from them but it was no way as neat as yours. Basically only the body shell is a keeper, everything else, including the window frame was a disaster and needs to be scratch - build.
I was saying I have no "sleeping beauty" - but I have omitted this one. If I do it as a staff car probably will meet the regulations for the GB. After a second thought, I guess I'm in!

This is the way my kit was delivered:

Bent, ground and shapeless resin:

The body was something like OK, except the window frame:

I had to partially rebuild the suspension, but the wheels aren't even round and I had no spares at the time. Now I have couple of kits which I can rob from:

This is the current state - but I need to go back and change the wheels and to strip the paint on the body - that was the moment I divorced my Neo for Iwata and married my H&S (that was an expensive wedding!)

Cheers!

Finally got some pictures up!

Here she is

I have gotten exactly this far in the past five months

Started work on the engine

I think I did a pretty good job of adding some detail with some paints on chrome

As she sits as of 1/7/2019

Happy Modeling!
