Looks very nice Russ, good work. Your top cover definitely is a big improvement on the kit part, great innovation and one for the memory bank for sure.

What's next up on your bench?

Thanks for the comments. Right now I have a Meng P-51D to finish up and then I will start on either a Fujimi Ford GT or Revell XK SS. The XK SS looks to be a much better kit than the XKE. The real challenge will be the riveting on the XK SS body. I'm thinking of using Archer Rivets under the paint and then painting them using a silver pen.

Cheers

Russ,
Looking forward to your XK SS build over the GT40 series that I've seen dozens of times, and have 2 or 3 of the Fujimi kits in my stash. I keep on by-passing them because the one AM guy that makes engines for them has them listed as out of production. And after the Ferrari 330 P4 build, the lack of a engine that can plainly be seen through the rear deck glass just doesn't cut it with those phony cover plates.

Joel,

I'm leaning towards the XK SS but I'm still puzzled over the rivets. Other than the rivets it does not look like there is anything to correct. As for the Ford GT have you any experience Union's GT? It is the only kit I know of by that company. It does include a choice of engines, opening boot and doors. It has been sitting in my stash for a very long time. The amount of flash and Japanese instructions and color call outs have kept it in the stash. Do you have any idea if the kit is build-able?

Russ

Russ,
It's old for sure, but it's about the only way you're going to get a Ford engine kit. Every once in a while it does come up on my another racing modeling board specializing in close wheel race cars. And some of these guys are literally walking/living reference books.

The kit is 1/25 scale which is a negative if you're a 1/24 scale builder. Personally I build all three scales, so it doesn't matter to me. The biggest visible issues is the nose clip which has major shape issues, the heavy hinges for the doors and rear cover that cause some fit issues. And there are other fit issues. It's certainly buildable, as I've seen it built up a few times. But it will take work to bring it up to whatever standard you're looking for.

Joel,

Thanks for the info. I may give it a shot. I just wasn't sure if it is buildable. Hobby easy has has decals for the number 1 car in Gulf Blue, which is one of my favorites. I just may give I try and add Gulf Blue to my order British Racing Green for the XK SS. I have been using ScaleFinishes paints for my automotive builds. Have you had any experience with their paint?

Cheers

Russ,
My go to paint company for road racing cars is Gravity of Spain. For US cars especially Nascar it's MCW paints here in the states.

I've never heard of Scale Finishes paints, so I can't help you on that one.
