If I could find that Aoshima Falcon XB at a reasonable price I would do it.

As of now I'm planning on the Revell 1/24 scale Ford GT LeMans 2017
car. The kit comes with the Chip Ganassi 2017 Daytona team livery. The decals are also available from IndyCals

And IndyCals has the two team marking for the 2018 Daytona 24 hr race.

I'm really leaning towards one of the two 2018 team cars.

Joel

I am in for this campaign!
Lots of Mustangs and older Fords in my collection!

Rich,
great to see you here. Did you ever finish that 1/12 scale Tamiya Tyrrell F1 car? I kind of lost track of it.

Joel

Hi Joel!
It's on my list of models to complete this year?

As long as you're making progress, that's the important thing, and knowing you, you'll get it across the finish.

Joel, that's the first (real) Ford I like in ages. I think it owns a little too much to Mercedes GT2 as design, but looks very nice nonetheless. I was thinking to review it myself, but I made my calculus and realized there is no time for it. I still didn't wrote it off my shop list. Definitely, I'll be very happy if you'd choose this one for the GB.

Gabriel,
It's definitely my GB entry, and I'm just deciding on which sponsorship scheme I want to do from 2018, as they're all Ford's official team: Chip Ganassi Racing.

I'm ordering the kit from Spot Models in Spain along with the Beemax Porsche 935K3 as a pre-order. Will be doing a lot of research so I'm ready for the Oct 1 start date.

Once Damian decided that Blue Oval was the group build for later this year I knew what I was going to build. I had my eye on this kit since they came out last year I think. It represents one my first memories of watching motor sport back in the day. The International Heatway Rally of New Zealand 1973, the days when rallies meant something. This was an 8 day, 3600 mile event covering just about the whole of New Zealand. Ford entered two "works" cars, the peerless Escort MK1 RS1600. Hannu Mikkola won by about 40mins.

The kit is of the RAC rally winner, another Finn. I will try and find some decals that can represent the NZ winning car but if not I will go with the box. There is a lot of history available as the second Ford was driven by a New Zealander. This one here

And if you're interested in it as a classic, a clean road version of this model went for 70,000 pounds last October.

cheers

Great choice Michael, a classic car and an uncommon build subject. A good mate of mine had a panel van from the same series, it was great fun to drive until he put it on it's roof going around a roundabout a bit hard.

Michael,
Outstanding choice of subject. I'm not a big rally guy as there is only one somewhere in the USA and that's it. With all the road and oval racing here and on TV, maybe one or two rally's ever make it on.

The kit looks real interesting from a company I've never heard of. There's a lot of AM decal companies in Europe and Asia that must have the decals you're looking for.

Joel, Belkits is a Belgium based company, quite popular in EU for their resin and photo-etched upgrade sets for super-sports cars (Audi & Co, BMW). In last years they went into full kits production in resin, with very select models (and very expensive), and more recently they do multimedia kits, like this one here. I'm not sure who injects the plastic shells for them, but I'm guessing RoG knows something.

Michael, needles to say: amazing choice! I cannot wait to see it unfolding!

Hi Joel, They focus on rally cars, especially Fords which they have a licence for. As Gabriel said they have been around for a while now and starting make their own full kits. I would love to open it and show you some sprue shots but I must resist the temptation otherwise I will start fiddling. Roll on 1 Oct.

Michael, I have a perfect solution for that problem. Open it up, show us the sprues, build it as a practise run, buy a second kit for the Group Build. Problem all gone Glad I could help

Totally agree. In some ways these long lead-up threads can be bloody frustrating, but more often they generate a lot of great discussion and interest.

Michael,
I vote with D on starting it now. I'm sure that there are AM decal guys in the Asian market that have decals for every team focus Rally car.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Joel but I still have the 250GT and Big E to finish. Once their done I will start to build something maybe Ford powered rather than Ford built before the campaign starts in October.

So do we have enough interest? Where do we sign up?

Put me down for a 1948 Ford De Luxe Convertible.

More than enough interest, but no Group Build Sign-Up page yet! We still need to firm up the Rules and Regs and confirm a leader who can put in the submission. Joel has volunteered so his name is on top of the list at this stage.

Ok, here is my take on the first draft of Rules and Regs:

1. Any scale
2. Any time frame
3. Road, off-road or racetrack
4. Prototype, limited run or mass produced
5. Must have the Blue Oval or FORD badge, or be manufactured by a division that was created by Ford and always owned by Ford (Lincoln, Mercury, Edsel)
6. Civilian or Military
7. Cars, trucks, tractors, at a pinch we might even allow a Tri-Motor!
8. Learn from each other, encourage each other, and above all enjoy the Group Build!

As always, if you see that I have missed anything or got it wrong, please let me know and we can get it sorted. We have plenty of time before October 1.

Cheers, D

EDIT: BTW, I did some further reading and realise now that the magnificent 427 Shelby Cobra (or any of the Cobra series) does not qualify as it was manufactured by AC Cars or Shelby and only powered by ford. In the later marques Ford engineers had some input into the design, but no manufacturing other than the engines.

D,
Excellent clarification of the rules. Hard to believe that the Ford powered Shelby Cobra doesn't qualify, but the entire car was designed by Shelby and his small team. Only the engine and drive train were pure Ford that the boys from Dearborn conceived.

Then the same would certainly apply to any Ford powered Lotus Indy cars, or even any F1 car powered by a Ford Cosworth engine.

Jim,
Sure does. As I posted, my choice is a pure Ford GT LeMans car that Team Ganassi has been running for the last 3 years.

But I'm sure that there will be members wanting to build one of the Iconic Shelby Cobras or other Ford powered icons from years past. By clarifying the rules now, most of those issues are already taken care of.

I’m thinking with all of the recent releases and interest the next Group Build might need to be all about racing! Drag strip, circuit, road or rally, any combination on body and power plant. I would definitely be in with a 427 Cobra in racing livery for that!

Cheers, D
