Russell,
She's really looking pretty good. I'd just add a black wash to engine and exhaust system, and she'll really look the part.

Joel

Thanks Joel

definitely need to make a few little "tweaks" to her that I didn't think of when I was initially building her up.

Also, want to rub down the tire treads a bit to give that used feel and paint the fuel tank grey... But hey, here's me rambling on high jacking your build... nuff said. Back to topic!

Russell,
Sounds like a realistic plan for the tires if your doing a well maintained street car, as well as adding some paint to the gas tank for a more realistic appearance.

Have no fear, you're not high jacking my thread. I consider it an honor that you're refilling your mojo tank for another run at your Trans Am in my thread.

OK guys, the 935 K2 Porsche crossed the finish line late yesterday afternoon. Of course I had an issue with the very last detail part I saved the door handles for the very last as I was worried that I'd damage them from last minute handling. Well, the driver's door handle cleaned up and installed without a single issue, so I'm down to the last part.

Well, the Carpet Monster roared it's ugly head as I was cleaning the door handle, naturally it popped out of the tweezers, and where I thought it landed, it wasn't there. I spent a good hour looking everywhere, but no luck. Tried another search pattern after diner, and again no luck. So today I'm going to try and massage some scrap into a handle. It's not a big part, so it should pass.

I'm sure that the part will turn up down the road as most seem to do. Just more disrespect from the almighty Carpet Monster.

After the handle is cobbled together, I'll shoot the final pictures for this thread, then do a full Feature Article, which is something I haven't done literally in years.

FOUND IT

Took another lap around my workbench, then inside the black basket that I keep my hand tools in. Now I've looked in there 3 times and never saw it, but that's where it is!!

Now I can finally finish the 935 K2 with all the proper parts.

Russell,
Will be trying to do the final pic shoot today.

Like I said, the part would most likely show up after I cobbled a replacement. Luckily, the part showed up before I attempted a replacement.

I'm sure that the Carpet Monster will be looking to get be back DOUBLE next time just to call it even.

Well, the final lap has been completed, and the Porsche 935 K2 has crossed the finish line with the addition of all those details I left till the very end to prevent breakage, and or just plain loosing them.

I've always dreaded the front headlights, lenses, and detail painting till the end as I usually screw something or things up. Well, this time I actually got it right. I hand painted the light housing flat black, then the bulb receptical silver. The instuctions really have no callout for the silver other then the picture. Looking at it now it really meant not to paint it anything as the bulb will completely cover it. I had to carefully remove the Silver paint so that the glue would hold the bulb in place. The front lens fit is excellent, and was glued in place with Tamiya Extra Thin.

I completely forgot to decal the rear end engine plate that should be Aluminum, so that was done. Next came what looks like rear metal bumpers. I've got pictures of them in Gloss White & in Black, so I decided to go with Black just to add a little more interest to the rear end. And finally the rear brake light lenses that I painted with Tamiya Clear Orange & Clear Red were glued into their respective places.

All the glass had it's rubber trim done in Mig Ammo Flat Black. The front and rear glass I masked and then air brushed, but the side windows proved to be way to frustrating trying to mask them, so I spent a good few hours very carefully hand painting them. When dry, I cleaned up the raised edges with a sharpened point of a Q-tip. They actually came out looking pretty good. Then the Glass was glued into their respective places with several drops of Tamiya Extra thin applied with a very fine paint brush. Works great instantly holding the glass in place, and I've yet to have any issues with fogging.

The small details were glued into place on the sill right in front of the windshield including the single windshield wiper. Next up was the Glossy Black fender mirrors. And then the last two detail parts: the door handles. I've already confessed to loosing one, then finding it the next day, so they now both match.

And with that the Beemax Porsche 935 K2 is in the books.

Thanks to all for following my build and staying the course, as it's always much appreicated.

As for my next build, the plan has always been one closed wheel car, then one open wheel car, so up next is Tamiya's 1/20 scale Iconic Lotus 25 Coventry Climax.

Wonderful work, Joel! As I said before, your decaling on the Porsche is superb. It's far better than mine, I believe I couldn't do this so exactly. I was happy to hear that you found the door handle again. Yes, I know that evil carpet monster also too well. Last part I have lost was a tiny underwing balance weight of a Bf 109. Have not found it. But you know what? When I read how you were searching for the part it made me laugh, because I saw you crawling on all fours through the room and suddenly your wife came in .... What did she say?

Have fun!

Hi Joel,

Wow! Nice work as always! Really a nice build - and while reading your posts, ugh! The misery of losing the last part! I guess we all experience that from time to time, but it can sure initiate a spike in blood pressure! Glad you found that door handle!

Cheers

Another beautifully finished build Joel, and once again a very entertaining and informative thread.

Congratulations on getting this one into the display cabinet, I’m looking forward to your upcoming “open-wheeler” build now.

Torsten,
You really made me laugh with this post. I don't think you want to know what my "better half" said as she walked past the model room. Of course not only was I on all fours with my nose only a few inches from the carpet, but I had my cell with the flashlight on, and my #5 Optivisor on!! Now that was a sight for sure.

She's already convinced that my modeling is so far out of control that I'm certifiable at the very least. Good thing she never sees any of the bills for what I buy these days as everything goes through my Pay Pal cash account

Michael,

And it's always a pleasure to have you along for the ride. Not sure just how much one can learn from my building techniques, but if it helps anyone, then it's more then worth the time and effort.

Just started to Lotus 25 yesterday, and then the power went out. Good thing it came back on in 15 min as it was only 97 with the Humidity about 95! Another killer day for today, but then it's suppose to break with massive T storms. Can't wait for the Fall. At my age I can live with just Spring and Fall.

Nick,
Thanks so much for the thumbs up. Lucky find for sure. I've lost way more to the Carpet Monster then I've ever found.

D,
Thanks buddy for your continued support, advice, and help throughout the build. It's always greatly appreciated.

My model display has one shelf dedicated to Open Wheel, one shelf to Prototype Sports cars, and one shelf to production based cars for now. The 935 is actually the 1st production based car I've built, so it has the whole shelf to itself. Hopefully, I'll be adding a few more shortly as this class of cars is what the Asian manufactures have been concentrating on for the last several years, as every country has a Touring car championship that has a tremendous following. My absolute favorite is the Australian Super Cars (which I catch on Cable every so often), and my two favorite teams are Penske and Ganassi.

Richard,
Great to hear from you. You just made my day!!

Don't know if you saw my post on Brian's B-17 blog, but we actually met up for the day at the Air Power Museum in Suffolk county. Had a great time as it's always special when you get to meet another list member. Hopefully we'll meet up again this coming year.

And thanks for the Thumbs up on the Porsche 935 K2 build. So glad that you really like it.

So how's the bike restoration coming? Hopefully you're getting closer to the end and will start up at the bench again with another Japanese aircraft. Your builds were always special.

Gabriel,
Thank you my friend for those accolades, coming from you it means quite a lot. But what means even more is that you're back home and back on the list. I for one have really missed you even with the few exchanged emails.

So get your bench up and running, so you can start building.

Once again, raising the bar for all of us to aspire to.

Thanks again for sharing and this is definitely one the carpet monster didn't win!

Russell,
Thanks for your most appreciative words. I was thrilled that once again you were along for the whole ride.

I sure hope that the Carpet Monster isn't planning anything special for my Lotus 25 build. I really wouldn't put anything much past him after all these years.

As for the Lotus build, I'm planning on trying out a few new ideas and procedures that seem to work very well for fellow auto modelers on You Tube that I follow.
