Picked this up on ebay for a couple of pounds.

mg magnette

Has had a lot of pieces removed from sprues,
some missing nothing built.

mg magnette

Top part of the diff is missing but that is
hidden under the seat. But the preselector
gear box need scratching. I have still to add
a gear stick.

mg magnette

The plastic is good and crisp
and the fit seems very good thus far. Feels
more tamiya than airfix. I am only mildy
dissappointed happy.gif

Here is the reason for my building this

My folks live on the old TT course and I've had
a picture of Nuvolari on my wall since I was about 10.
There is something about living in Northern Ireland with
all these great road race courses that just makes racing
incredible real. NW200, Ulster grand prix, Temple 100, Carrowdore 100
were all part of social life in the wee country during the eighties
and nineties. The Ards TT was stopped in the thirties due to a crash,
but it attracted top stars from all over the world to compete on
our County Down roads.

Here is a write up of the 1933 TT.

http://www.ddavid.com/formula1/tt3.htm

Along with some pictures of number 17.
Sounds like a damn close run thing.

Here is a video of the course as it is today.
A lot of corners are straighter now, even from how
I raced my 125 round them with my mates 20 years ago,
and the road wider these guys are real heros.

you go past my house at 7.22

Enjoy.

This sounds like a project that will come close to the heart. What plans do you have for the MG? Are you going to do a generic car that will be nostalgic, or are you going for more of a replica of a particular car?

Good find!

This certainly takes me back. My brother build quite a few Airfix 1/32 cars.
Excellent subject. Looking forward to seeing more.

some slight progress. Lots of time spent building airplanes is the excuse. I picked this up last night.
Tried out tamiya green for a BRG looks fine but is impossible to brush on. Major parts dry fitted,
starting to look like a car now the bonnet will require some brute force but no filler.
I think I may sand off the engine strap and replace it with something better.
Drilled out the instruments and will put decals in behind to simulate the faces.
Some snaps of the general shape. click on them for larger sizes.

Got a hobby lobby near you on your side of the pond? That or any decent craft store would do...your looking for 1/8" or less straight ribbon on a small{3"} spool. Comes in different colors too. Makes great seat belts and the like.........

Wow it's been nearly a year since an update on this. Best laid plans and aw that.

Well it looks a hell of a lot better with some BRG shot onto her. In this case simply Tamiya Medium Green.

Also removed the folding roof and mudguard mountings. This was a racing car after all. The bonnet is not secured yet in case your wondering. Sanded off the strap detail this will be done with masking tape. I'll try the haberdashers for ribbon too.

It is beginning to take shape. The tape will make the bonnet straps look more realistic. Looking forward to seeing some more progress soon.

Not quite dead yet this build. Dug it out of the box of doom.

White number background sprayed and some detail painting.

Well it is finally finished. And my first post back at kitmaker for a year or so.

Looking back to build logs I started this 20th April 2009.

Really happy to have this finished and will start clearing the backlog of started but unfinished projects.

A really lovely little car now the wheels are on.

Airfix should think about resurrecting some of these car models.

Not so very far away from Nuvolari's 1933 Ards TT winner.

Naw it just got resprayed.
The numbers come from a hasegawa f86, they thoughtfully supplied a load of number to make a full squadron from.
But the 17 on the front came from an old ww1 decal sheet were it said "1917-1918" in just the right type and size. Perfect! Don't throw anything away, esp decals
