Ok, the Reo was chosen as the one to build, so here I am with her so far...axle was set back a scale 18" from origonal. The old rear spring perch holes now work pretty well for the shock holes{you may want to fill the old shock holes!}. The battery boxes and air tanks are now behind the gas tanks instead of in front for the regular axle location. I cut out filler panels and filled in the hood side holes where the kit fenders were to go since I'm making pit fenders...also...I scribed top and side hinge lines and added round stock for hinges since I wanted a folding side hood. I took a little razor saw blade and carefully cut the hinge slots all the way down all 3 hinges. I also scribed a front line into the radiator housing for the side panel cut out...went from the top of the hood down to the bottom the the proposed side lift panels. Added the headache rack and a few other things and I have the diamond plate fenders cut out and will have to tweek as I go along for fit. I took the tires from one of my payhaul dump kits for this build so she's got knobby tires in back now and floatations up front - that took some work as the payhauler tires have a smaller ID than the reo rims so I had alot of trimming that had to be done so the rims would fit inot the tires.

That's all for now-

Well that's a great start, Bobbo! Nice work with the hinges! I had to go back and read how ya made 'em because I was looking for a link to the AM hinges company you ordered 'em from!

Nice work. I'll keep watching this one!

Thank you sir. Just draw an indexing line, add .020 rod stock and alittle intervaled sawing and viola. I tried cutting the lines with a fresh blade and it's just not the same.
Hey, how'd those rads work out for you....good?

Yes! Yes! Yes, they most certainly did! I will be posting pics of that assembly when I'm a little farther along, but, for you, the donor...you get a sneak peek.

That's some of the goodies I made with the parts ya sent me.

Thank you again.

Nice job on the REO, Bob. Looks like it's coming along.

New front fenders are nearly done. They just need the rounded edges added. Took the front bumper from the payhauler kit and made an apron to fill the gap between the front of the fenders to the back of the bumper. Trimmed alittle off the bottom of the grill so it was flush with bottom of the shell.

That's enough for tonight-

...yeah...payhaulerstar...whatever it is.
I still need to pick a color cause that's coming up soon.

Hey, in pics 1,3 and 4 you'll note the open area right behind the bumper end...think a triangle behind that{under the very front of the fender} would make it look better by filling that in...maybe a square - it seems bare or something.

I see what you mean. Yes, some sort of filler would look better.

As for color, I bet it won't be red!

...nope, not that red! It's nothing more than a campatibility issue between the primer and that brand of paint{ace hardware}...which has never happened before.

Hi Guys,Bob you could put a mudflap in there to fill the space. Not uncommon to see one there as it keeps water away from the headlight wiring and the engine compartment.Just a thought, the rig looks awesome so far nice work.

Filler pieces are in and she's nearly ready for paint...here's my thoughts-
- Base cab color= model master dark bronze metallic /rattle can - {or back up color of MM citrus yellow metallic /rattle can}
- Cab, wide stripe of cream color - maybe top of roof too
- Frame and fenders, black

...thoughts?

Sounds like an interesting color combination. Should look pretty good.

One suggestion that was brought up on another board: these trucks were usually washed by kids that used too much degreaser; so they usually have a dull appearence. Obvoiusly disregard if you're doing "factory fresh".

New update...I shot a light coat on and that brown is awhfully dark..more than I expected, so I'm going to try a test coat of green and see how that lays/looks.
Rims and tanks are primered, later today I should be able to do a color coat. The frame is now done and ready for primer.

Oh, I'm forgoing the dirt and weathering on this one - she'll be factory fresh. I'll beat up the next one!

Ok, I got a start on some paint here...not too shabby so far.

The sideways aircleaner is actually a mack DM600 spare that I reworked and filled in the double intake portion...put the support plate and arm there so it wouldn't be seen. I never really was keen on the diamond's usual square box aircleaner.
Yeah, I noticed a few spots where the black need stouching up at....the tape lifted just enough up front and the side went too far down I guess...got a smear too on the other side when I pulled the tape off and touched the very side of the fender. Minor setbacks though.
I'm trying to picture some gold pinstriping on her but I don't know if they'd do that on diamond plate though....

Nice color combination. I like the green, and the gold spokes are cool.

What's that "under the hood"? Looks like a Cummins.

Looking better every time I check her out Bob. The green and gold are awsome together. Might I suggest making the air cleaner housing a dark stainless steel? Oh yeah, factory fresh....never mind.

BTW, exactly what color green is that? Might need to borrow some for a future build.

Thank you sir. The paint in question is model master rattle can citrus yellow metallic{yeah, yellow}, in the oem car colors section of the paint rack. Black semigloss on the frame and gloss black on the roof and front fenders.
I'm thinkin tan for the interior...which I haven't touched yet.

Took a little detour on the build and went a different direction...when the paint dries I'll post pics to show the current direction.
...now's a good time to...

Redid the frame in tamiya "gun metal" and added some mack DM600 fenders- Thoughts on a color for the log boggie and uprights?

The interior is done now-

Big pipes anyone?

I painted the logging trailer metallic black today and did the rims for it in aluminum color. I want to outline the rims in a color as a highlight...maybe red or purple just to set them off alittle. Pics of that to follow...
