A minor update from me.
All sub assemblies are done on the Chevy gun tractor. All parts are base coated and ready for top coat.
I am usually quite satisfied with Italeri kit's, but this one has been quite an ordeal. Lots of flash and warped parts, but I guess that makes it all the more authentic.

Regretfully I've been finishing up rehabing two old Tonka trucks for my son and just found interest again in my AMT bulldozer build as a US Forestry dozer.
I got sidelined on how to make a template of the vinyl top of the Mopar so I can acccurrately cut out the needed flower power top decal for this one...I'm thinking masking tape will stretch when removed and yield an inaccurrate pattern.......but the thought of wet tissue paper laid on and let to dry might be the answer. Still looking ofr usable other ideas....

Hi all, what's happening ? Real life and a million other campaigns have put my cars on the back burner for now, but they will be back front and centre as soon as possible.

How is everybody else going with their legendary Chevs and rubbish Mopar builds ?

The ugly Chevy is primed and ready for paint.
The beautiful Mopar got another coat of plum crazy a few hours ago.

He's either ignoring or not seeing the "authentic" comment!

"He" is always watching, and always gets a buzz from stirring things up ! I'm loving the sparring between the camps so far, I hope we can generate the buzz even more as our builds progress.

The Challenger got another coat of beautiful plum crazy last night.

That's the ONLY color to use with Mopar.
...but don't mind me-- still lurking, albeit noisily.

After a slow start{what start- I know}, I have the beginnings of my entries;
- 1st is the Dodge tow truck using the Lil Red Express body and the tow bed and 1 1/2 ton frame from the Midnight Cowboy since it is slightly longer and gives me some room to build on .....upgraded resin dually wheels are in transit as we speak since neither kit had good looking wheels nor actual duallies.

Here's the chevy van I plan as the "towed vehicle" - BUZZZZZ !

...I don't have the two-tone paint scheme picked out yet for the van{it'll be stock}...nor the color for the wrecker.......but this is a start.
The wrecker color is an issue for me since I kind of plan on it doing double duty; 1 as the build here and 2 as the wrecker for my Texaco service station dio I'll be doing soon...I may have to split the ideas and build the other wrecker as that.......

BTW- this one is far easier on the eyes than that chevy!

Take 2 teaspoons of Chev sump oil daily for a week and you will start much easier.



Well I was going to compliment you on your idea and progress, but since you are determined to carry on in such a Hermon-like way, I will only say that the Chev van looks superb, it will be a true work of art, and the other thing looks like a lump I scraped off the bottom of my shoe last week.

Seriously Bob, I always enjoy following your work and this already looks like a winner, great concept mate.

While we're on the subject of better of the builds{Buzzzzzzz} here's my latest decal renditions for my Mopar tow rig...Hmmm, which hood decal should I ever pick for the truck?! It won't be a 340 that's for sure! These are all correctly sized now for use and will be displayed as the early '70s Dusters were- angled on a black hood - even though it's not politicaly correct for the year, it should look Cool!

I'm going to make a visual statement with this truck by making her a '78 citron green "Macho Power Wagon" clone...since those were actually 4x4s and this one will be 2 wheel drive{unless I can find or make a front drive axle}.

Don't go to too much trouble O-D, the wheels will fall off anyway !

...Yeah, from the weight of the chevy behind it!

Here's the main color coat on the body....2 more colors to go yet. I've got the front drive axle made up as well as the transfer case but I have to wait for the resin wheels to come in so I can accurately set the wheel spacing and the vehicle height. Rear axle, like the front, is just setting there for the moment.

Sure is hard trying to find OEM 2 tone chevy van color pics...guess they quietly rusted away eons ago or no-one thought future folks would want to see them...go figure.

I finished the 4x4 chassis today- got the axles set in place and the PTO and winch pump installed.




I also just moved the top radiator hose location since I changed motors and started making the interior hump 4x4 shifter control - funny thing with this kit like alot of them, you get a 4 speed trans, a 4 speed shifter but it doesn't have a clutch pedal! I fixed that. I toyed with making it an automatic but figured next time. I still have to make a turn signal lever since it doesn't have one of those either.

That's because actual internal combution creates heat, and this rarely occurs inside a Hemi due to their propensity for parts failure and breakage. The Chev engine on the other hand is the hottest engine ever. Not TOO hot mind you, just hot enough to do the job exceptionally well.

I see you have a knife handy to accurately model the rust holes.
What really caught my attention and got me writing here is a strong sense of civic pride-- Revell/Monogram is from suburban Chicago, the Windy City (original home of Windy Sean ), and I see they've used the Chicago skyline on their box art-- the Shedd Aquarium on the far left, Sears Tower (now Willis Tower) left of center (built as the world's tallest office building, a few short years after this car rolled off the assembly line), and the Prudential Building on the far right.
Okay, back to your builds! Again, excellent work here. Glad it runs over Christmas-- I still plan on joining eventually.
