This 1/12 scale Tyrrell arrived to day from model HQ.

Welcome to the build Jasper!

We start the build with step #1 which is a wheel nut wrench to be used later to attach the wheels and two stands:-

Sprue F(black) and D(chrome)

Front bulkhead is assembled :-

I hand painted the blue on this assembly but the rest will be air brushed.
I will start on the engine assembly next while paint drys.

I've never really been into the F1 or Indy open wheelers, but the build processes and techniques that folks use still fascinate me so I will be following along on this one Richard.

You can count me in as a dedicated follower of your build. I've been a long time open wheel fan especially from the 60s-80, just not a active car modeler. But that's changing with my 1st Ebbro 1/20 scale build after the B-25B is done and in the books.

I am building up a collection of autos in my stash.
This release has some new parts I am told but the mould dates on some parts are 1973.
I will post an update on the weekend.

Richard,
The original molds from way back were really cutting edge back then, and if one was actually able to complete the build, ended up with a incredible display piece. From what I've read, the updates are some PE, and machined Aluminum fuel injection intakes.

There is a fit issue with the end cap on the main frame that will need an adjustment with a file:-

You're making excellent progress.

Just a heads up, the Tyrell 003 was powered by a Ford Cosworth V8. The valve covers were a Matt Black, not Tyrell French Blue.

The four rubber tires have a seam around the middle:-

I have used 100 grit to remove the mould line as can be seen on the tire on the right.
Three more to go!

That is some serious rubber. We had the F1 here in Melbourne a couple of weeks back, man those new engines just sound like angry Mosquitoes compared with the old bangers!

New dry F1 sticker tires did indeed have that mold seam on them, but they also had the manufacture's sticker. Back then it was quite common to see new sticker tires on for the start of the race. They usually practiced on the previous races tires. So you could use the tires either way.

Model building time has been far and few between but I have worked on the tire seams and painting the white lettering.
The rims were primed and painted semi gloss black:-

Joel here is a photo of the Acrlic paint pen that I brought from Walmart:-

I ran the tip on it's side across the raised letters and then filled in with the point of the tip.
This worked best for me, I had tried paint on a pin,Q-tips and a small plastic rod.
