So in my never ending quest to clear up the "Shelf of Shame", I have pulled my 1974 Kenworth K100 Oneida Freight out of moth-balls & onto the work bench. Why I do this when it's cold & I cannot use spray paint, I have no idea.

Anyway, this is what I am going for:

I started with the AMT Kenworth K123 kit back on 24 JAN 12, and this is where I am right now. I wanted to show you exactly how it looks with the dust & broken parts & all (ok, I did remove a dead bug from being wedged between the passenger seat & the doghouse).

Frame:

Engine (swapping out the Cummins NTA370 for a Caterpillar 3408; larger radiator from AMT K100 Aerodyne kit):

Interior:

Cab (replacing the narrow grill from the kit with the grill from the AMT K100 Aerodyne):

And that's where we stand. More updates soon, I hope.

Hello James,

She doesn't look too bad for having sat around for 4 years. Funny how the paint bug hits at the wrong times, isn't it.

Will the Cat motor fit? You've got the turbo charger to deal with on the Cat for the dog house.

See ya in the funnies..........

With all the test fitting, it looks like the Cat will fit just fine. Hopefully some more progress this weekend.

Thanks, Damian. Yes, it's been almost 5 years. You can tell be the dust accumulation on the frame. It's going to need a bath before I do anymore frame work.

Hello James, nice to see that a K-Whooper made it to the forum. It's nice to see that someone still like the oldies.

Don't feel bad James that it's been almost 5 years. I've got my own "Shelf of Shame", only I call it "Plasdora's box." Life happens.

Thanks, Russell. Hoping to get some more work done on the cab today, if I can keep the steering column from falling off.

Here's this weekend update. The cab is mostly done. Air deflector still need to be painted, decaled, & mounted; and the P/E logos & door handles need to be attached. There is also some small touch-up painting that needs to be done, but it's a lot closer than it's been in years.

Looks good James.

I noticed the IFTA sticker on the driver's front. IFTA was "born" in 1986. Before 1986, the industry had what was called a "Bingo plate" on each rig. The area below the 4047 on the passenger's side is for the "Bingo plate."

If your going pre-1986, then the IFTA sticker needs to be removed. If your doing after 1986, then it needs to be put on the driver's side of the cab, either on the door, lower right hand corner, or on the side box access door, driver's side.

HTH

Thanks for the information. I just said it was a 1974, I didn't say it was 1974. I guess a 1974 truck might still be operating on 1986, depending on how well maintained it was.

Take a look at the photo of the 1:1, New York has to be different as the IFTA sticker is required on the left front (usually the bumper). I have no idea why.

Thanks, Russell. The cab will be "officially" completed soon. Then I will start on the frame & engine.

James, Ah, Got ya.

There were some around and even today you still see one or two running around. Most aren't EPA complaint since DEF and all that crap as been in play.

New York has a Highway use tax, AKA HUT sticker. That's probably what I'm seeing on the 1:1. Most states don't have them anymore, it falls under a general fund type tax. Hence, the IFTA which collects that road use tax along with the fuel tax. Oregon and Washington state have 3 different fuel taxes, don't ask...
