I started this one just after Christmas (it had been in The Stash for a while), and I wanted nice simple build. So, this is what I'm starting with:


I've made some good progress in the last few days as the kit has gone together quite well. Here is a mock up of the truck. The cab, hood, bed, & wheels will be Forest Green; while the fenders will be Gloss Black.


I have the frame & engine just about finished. There are some touch-ups on the engine to do, and I need to mount the radiator.


Next is on to the cab & interior!

Looking good Jim. It's great to throw together a simple, low-parts-count kit sometimes to blow the cobwebs out!

A few more details to go, but I'm done adding parts to this one. The plan is to make some wildland fire fighting tool for the bed & add some US Department of Agriculture license plates; then it will be done!

Excellent job. I love these pre-war car models, and have several in my stash as well. Did the decals come with the kit or are they aftermarket? I think your choice of a non-military government vehicle is great-- I was just reading about the USFS activity in Oregon during WWII, using vehicles like this. The USFS was involved in countering the effects of the Japanese bombing attacks by aircraft and balloons in Oregon.

Thanks, Russ. The 1941 Chevrolet A/K just sort of begged to be done like this. There were a couple of fiddly parts, but for the most part it went together quite well.

No, the decals didn't come with the kit. I got them from a friend of mine over at The Scale Firehouse. I have 3 more non-military government vehicles planned: a 1951 (or 1950) Ford F2 4x4 for the National Parks Department Fire Service, an 1950 Chevrolet Advanced Design Panel Van for Civil Defense, and a 1978 Chevrolet Bison also for the Parks Department (maybe).

Jim, Thanks-- I was especially impressed with the detail of the hub cap markings-- I assumed they were aftermarket. I'm going to await your new builds-- they sound great. As a kid in the 50s and 60s I spent a lot with of time in the NPS parks around where I live here in Washington State, and always admired the green trucks they drove (even after the puke green trucks came along in the 70s -- I guess they call it hi-viz green). They were still driving that 1941 Ford even into the late 50s down around Mt. Saint Helens when I visited there with my parents-- I actually rode in one with a Ranger when I walked away from a campground and "went missing" for a few hours. Boy my parents were mad. The Ranger was cool though. I knew a USAF LTC named Bongiovanni when I was in Korea-- any relation?

To my knowledge I had no relatives in the USAF during Korea, or any other time for that matter.

The hubcap markings and the "CHEVROLET" on the front grill are decals from the kit. The only decals that I did use from the kit were for the hubcaps, grill, air cleaner, & dash instrumentation. The USFS door logos, "FIRE" plate, & US Department of Agriculture license plates (to be added) came from my friend.
