I grew up in station wagons and will follow this build. I would rather see kits like this that people actually used and remember. I would love a '72 Plymouth Fury just because of the memories. We used to sit in the spare seats in the far back which had seatbelts we would tuck under the cushion. Used to fold down the tail gate and sit on it while we delivered news papers. Any family with kids back then had a huge station wagon.

Ya know, it occurs to me that the Ranchero and El Camino are reverse mullets of the automotive work. Party in the front, all business in the back.

I'm looking forward to building this. I joked to Joel when I bought it that it was "Plan B" for my Blue Oval entry, little thinking that it might become "Plan A" because the decals for my Coupe would go walkabouts!

That Ranchero looks brilliant! I love the colour!

My Dad had a Hillman Super Minx estate in the 1960s and I loved riding in the back cargo space. There weren't any safety straps - we just bounced around like loose luggage and thought it was great fun! - no-one even thought about them in those days.

I remember us driving past a particularly grisly accident where the driver and passenger had gone through the windscreen and Dad telling Mum to hide my eyes (I still managed to sneak a peek, of course - then instantly regretted it!) - but there was always an "It could only happen to the other guy" mentality and quite a lot of resistance to the introduction of compulsory wearing of seatbelts.
