I'm going to be honest, I have no idea why I started this kit. I'm not even totally sure what I'm going to do with it when I'm done! It's a pretty straightforward kit (not usually something I say about AMT kits), and this is about 1-1/2 hours work.

I have been looking for this kit, Round 2/AMT seems to repop everything but this and the tanker.
Rumors abound that Round 2 is coming out with a modern Manac spread axle flatbed soon.

Round2 isn't coming out with anything new, that's not their business model. I think you're referring to Moebius Models flatbed trailer that was announced a while back. I've seen the test shot photos on another Forum, and it loos really nice.

GMC Astro is very high on my list. First truck I ever build. My late uncle had one. Pricing for such an old kit, thank god there is that crisis and nobody delivers....

I've managed to make some progress on the flatbed trailer. I just need to "woodgrain" the deck, then I'll call it done.
It should look nice behind some of my tractors.

I use both suggested methods: wet on wet acrylic (craft paint) and / or oil over acrylic:
the crate and the pallet: wet on wet acrylic;
the barrel: oil over acrylic;
the bench (scratched from wood): oil over clear acrylic.

With the added advantage that it is easy to remove without damaging the acrylic base. For a total noob like me this would be the way to go.
I've seen some nice effects created by dragging coarse sandpaper unevenly along the direction of grain to create a light texture to the surface, which you can then use to build a "pin wash" of different colours.

Finished this up yesterday, and managed to get some photos today before the skies opened up.
It's not perfect, but it'll fit its purpose. The Revell USA Peterbilt 359 was completed in 2007, and the AMT GMC Astro/95 was completed in 2010.

The deck came out "ok". It's not great, but not bad for my first really big attempt at something like this.
The problem I had with the blending is that the craft paints dried so quickly, and I think my brush was too soft. Lessons learned for next time.

Truck and trailer combo came out great, Jim!
No wonder on such a large surface. You can make a wet palette or (as I do) You can use a larger soft brush to keep the surface moist.
