Spot Models has just listed the Meng GT40 as a Pre-order for late this year. What does that mean? Just that no one really knows the actual time table for world wide release by region. Est cost is 307 Euros or for us in the USA a whopping $307 plus shipping.

At that price I'm expecting a kit that exceeds any current 1/12 scale injection molded kit, but not the quality of the super expensive and highly detailed Multi Media kits that cost North of a $1,000.

Am I planning on getting one? I really don't know. The kit will have to be super detailed and not require much in the way of additional AM parts especially PE. On the other hand, I'm more then willing to buy high quality alternative decals hopefully from Indy Cal. I would expect the kit to contain all the needed lines, hoses, braided lines required.

I got that email It is expensive though there are not many new mainstream 1/12 scale kits on the market so I would expect it will be best you could buy without straying into the likes of MFH. If it comes with all the bells and whistles then even better. They would be mad not to provide the markings for at least all three of the Shelby cars. Even if they don't I am sure the likes of Indy will give us the full suite of options.
EUR300+ postage is over 600 bucks to me which makes it 200 shy of the something like the Porsche.
If they do the all black #2 for McLaren/Amon
(the winners! ) I would think about it.

Honestly, I've never strayed from my 3 chosen scales: 1/20 for F1 cars, 1/24 for everything else except the old 1/25 for Indy cars which are getting really hard to find at a decent price.

If I remember correctly, the original promo info from Meng stated that the car came pre-painted and decaled. That was an instant forget signal to me. Now the info on the Spot site has a super detailed, unpainted kit with PE, but just a single decal sheet for Denny Hulme and Ken Miles 1966 LeMans car. Honestly, it's not my favorite schemes. While I'm sure that Michael at Indy Cals is already making plans for Am decals as he has a ton of them in 1/24 scale. Just has to make sure that he adjusts them to fit the kit body perfectly.

The Price is certainly steep, and I would only consider buying the kit from Spot Models of Spain if I could use UPS or Fed Ex for such an expensive kit, but the shipping for UPS starts at slightly over $100 for 1 lb. I'm sure that the kit weighs more then that, so shipping to equal the cost of the kit. My last order from Spot via Post Office to Post Office took 7 weeks and traveled to way to many dist centers here in the states. Just to much of a chance of package damage, plus it will be the height of the X Mas season which online going to break all records. I'll need to find a USA based retailer that ships UPS or Fed Ex.

And this car will be big! 1/12 scale is 8 times bigger than 1/24 scale so allow space if you decide to go down that route.

Although I still have to confess that the odds are still greater of not getting the kit, then getting it, as the cost is a major issue for me.
