Okay...so here it is. Pete (Stormbringer) is going to moderate this forum and if traffic demands it we can add another moderator.

A few questions.

1. Should the forum be in this group (Focus Forums), Other Modeling Forums, or Off-Topic Forums?

2. What groups should we make available for filtering the topics? For example:

Cars: Stock
Cars: Custom
Cars: Racing
Trucks: Stock
Trucks: Custom
Motorcycles
Aircraft (civilian)
Helicopters (civilian)
Dinosaurs & Animals
???

Cheers,
Jim

Other Modeling Forums Jim.

as for the groups you have pretty much got it right to start with. These can be sorted out later depending on demand.

Mind you what about civilian ships? This may be a good one too because a lot of sail boats etc are made by modelers as well.

Cheers
Cliff

PS> good on you Pete for being the new moderator

Yes civilian boats/ships should be added as many people build them.

First i'd like to say thanks Jim on adding a new fourm. I think it's going to be great. Like i said before many members and myself enjoy building other than military. Yes, there are other web sites with fourms that cater to this matter, but none like Armorama. I've been to those sites and to me they seem a little dry. Here everyone's involved not just in modeling, but with each other. And again that's why everyone calls this place a home, family and community.

As for what groups to make available, i like them all... and the ships.

Model Railroads should be on the list along with (IMHO) a seperate sections (in cars) for Nascar and Formula One both of these are HUGE modelling areas....look at Revell and Tamiya's releases!

Ships (as Cliff pointed out ) should be there with Sailing ships (wooden type) AND Liners which also attract huge interest in the modelling community..

Now regarding news stories... Some seperate categories will have to be created - there won't be a huge amount of news stories but there will be some...

Category suggestions:

Civilian Ship Models
Racing Cars
Motorbikes
Railroads
Civil Aircraft
Commercial vehicles (trucks etc.)
Emergency Vehicles

Any more? Jim

P.S. can we have Military Softskins added to the military section?

why not simply class it as Non military isntead of naming all the different genres.
or is this only for vehicles, aircraft, and ships?
cheers, good idea though

I don't know ....armorama's forums and the site itself are strictly dedicated to military modelling ...even the name of the site suggest that. But if there are alot of car modeller's searching for a "home" forum then why not

Interesting. I like the thought about placing other than military models here. I do, on occasion, build civilian vehicles. My Airfix VW went into the softskins forum, but would have more properly belonged here.

Thanks Jim,for giving me the chance to give something back to the site.
I definitely agree with Jimbrae about Model railways/railroads, there are several military sites over here ,(Bicester for example has it's own internal railroad) that are attached to the main rail system over here.
Also the likes of Bachmann etc sell Loco's used by the War Department during WWII.
The only thing is that we may need 2 categories for Railways etc, Military and civilian.

Yes I was thinking about trains when I started that post so I am not sure where the notion went.

I like the idea of nascar/formula1 breakdown.

Jim - I am a bit nervous about adding news categories for this as that would REALLY being going outside the parameters of the site. If we were to do that than obviously reviews and features would be next and that is a serious logistical change to much of the sites current design scheme. But I did actually bandy about the notion of "Plastorama". hehe

Without being able to predict how particular the interest is going to be for specific subjects, what about a more general breakdown for the nascent forum? Subject categories such as trains, cars/trucks, ships, etc...could be refined as interest demands. Just mi dos pesos.

Been reading the posts, and suggest not getting too carried away with all these sub-catogories..... before we end up with "one eye figures with left foot raised and, only wearing pasley uniform from the lower sloberity war of 1487, armed with arrows and barretta pistols" forum.
Civilian forum sounds fine..... keep it simple.

I like the new addition...it will perhaps give me yet another opportunity to share my hobby with my teen aged son...he is just getting interested in modeling, and so far it's been pretty much about cars....maybe with this new forum, he can build his interest and I will have a better chance of "converting" him to military modeling...but let's not tell him about that just yet

Jim,
This is outstanding! I don't usually do cars, ect, but I have talked to local modelers who do. Some have expressed interest by the site but, "I don't do military models". Now Armorama provides a place for ALL modelers.
Thanks Jim. I'll be letting my "civilian models" friends know that they can now be part of the best modeling site on the net.

hey just saw the new forum and I think its ok as a lot of people here do crossover models.. I myself have a lot of older trucks to do and someday I may do them... however I think that just the one forum for all will be enough as it should be a support forum for Crossover model builders

As for softskins forums.. most of the techniques that apply to armor can also be used for softskins and since we now have a truck forum for military trucks I think that would be splitting up the forums a bit too much....

just my 2 cents worth..

All for it...except the trains. Trains IMHO are a completly separate thing...i mean if you open the door to them, then your gonna have RC vehicles ringing the doorbell to get in on the fun here. Trains....geeze....the next thing you know we'll have legos and lincoln logs.

But thats just MHO.

Jim!! :::bonking his head:::
Softskins is already a group in Armor/AFV forum! I am sorry people keep missing this distinction...maybe I should just rename the other modeling forums...

Military: Air
Military: Ground
Military: Sea
Military: Space
Military: People

:)
