Aoshima-based RX-7 built as if the German tuning firm of Alpina actually did such a vehicle. It has lots of machined(by me) gooh-gahs just to make it interesting. In model car culture it is permissable(actually preferred) to present the model 'clean'.

Brian,

The interior has been made to mimic the Ferrari F-40 with cut-out side panels in the door revealing bare metal inner panels, F-40 seats, radio removed with capped-off wires hanging down in the hole where the radio was, Alpina badge on the dash, machined instrument bezels with separate lenses and photo-reduced gauge faces, carbon-fiber decals to represent a spartan and carbon-fiber interior, floor mats for the passengers feet so as not to scuff up the pretty carbon-fiber floor..

The bottom of the body has been extended a scale 2"(5cm), drain holes on the underside, a bunch of machined goodies(bolt heads, fittings, etc...) on the underside including the oilpan, centerless ground stainless steel half-shafts, scratchbuilt inner-cooler can be seen in the front, each wheel is 6 machined parts including the recessed valve stems.

It was fun.

Beautiful model. Incredible paintjob. I have always sayd, that the hardest thing in modeling, was to make a showroom paintjob on a car.

Wheels are awesom.

Thanks guys. I really don't paint very well, but, I do know how to 'fix' or repair the paint once it's been applied to the object. The Mazda is painted with acrylic enamel, in this case, Krylon-brand Indoor/Outdoor Furniture Paint from an aerosol can. After sufficient paint is squirted on, simply block-sand flat the orange-peeled paint with progressively finer grits and finally polish with 3M Finesse-It and carnuba wax. This model(and paint) is 13 years old.

Cody, looks great. One minor nit pic and it might be the picture or my aging eyes. In the first pic it looks as though the left rear tire isnt sitting flat. Other than that fabulous build. Thanks for sharing. "Q"

It's the pic - all four wheels touch the ground and are square to the planet.

Man, all these posts about the paint job (which is nice by the way), but I am really in awe of all the other work you have done to the car. Especially the brakes, rims, guages, and bolt heads on the undercarriage! You must have access to some pretty gucci tools to machine those parts. I bet you could make a pretty penny building rims and such for people. ( I for one absolutely HATE plated kit rims!!) If you are interested in machining a set of rims for profit, give me a PM...I have a '72 Chevy C-10 that I want to turn into a replica of my first truck, but cannot find any rims even close to the ones I had on the truck I drove.....Anyway, EXCELLENT model...especially for its age!

the finish is amazing.
how exactley do you get rid of the orange peel without shaving the finish off or at least without having the finish vary it's shade??
