Hi
Not my usual modelling subject but I have an AMT 1959 Hurst Olds. The kit has one colour option, white, to go with the gold decals. I know nothing about American cars, so my question is; can I paint this model any other colours and still be authentic (maybe using the kit decals, I fancy red)? Could I give it a custom paint job, without customising the kit?

Are you sure it's a '59 Olds, not a '69.

The first Hurst Olds came in 1968. It came in silver with black stripes only.

The 1969 Hurst Olds came in white only, with gold stripes. (Cameo white, Hurst fire frost gold stripes)

Good place to for some actual colors is the Auto Color Library.

They actually have on file the paint chips of colors actually used on cars.

There are 3 drop down menus, one for domestic, asian and european cars, select your car and your year, and it will show you all the colors that that car was available for that year.

Then, you can click on the link for House of Color and they will actually make you your color, I believe the min amount is 2oz, but runs about $5 for 2oz, which is a fair amount cheaper than hobby paint, and you get the actual color that your car was in that year on your model.

Have a look!!

Holdfast, I'm not sure what you mean by "respray"

The link Scott have posted is a great place for car modelmakers.
