427 Corvette this model was done many many years ago, i think it held up pretty well, a hose or 2 and some wires under hood mostly stock, hand rubbed laquer paint that was a first for me few other pics in gallery.

Great looking Vette!!

When you say "hand rubbed laquer paint" what is it you actually have done?? Or what do you mean by laquer? Is it gloss enamel that you rubbed with a soft cloth? Please explain, I've been wondering about just this subject!!!

When i mean hand Rubbed Lacquer i mean i went to the automotive store and bought a touchup spray can of auto paint it is Lacquer (I think i misspelled it) I had to spray several coats and wet sand with smoother sand papers 600, 800, 1200 and polish using automotive polishing compound, back 10 years ago this was the best way to get a good model finish, and thanks for all the nice comments, model cars are where i started, the picture sucks.

Rv1963 you say back 10 yrs ago that hand rubbing was the best way, what is the best way now? Or is this the defacto standard still? Sorry to be so inquisitive, but as I said I was wondering about this...

In my opinion Laquer is still the best way, today they have epoxie paint which already gives a good shine some people are good with laying down a high gloss shine with enamel not so easy and they have better clear coats that give a good shine, I have a 1968 Pontiac Firebird i am working on which i sprayed with enamel but i think it would have looked better in Laquer. When i get pics i will post them. ask all the questions you want know problem.

What is the difference between lacquer and enamel? I thought they were essentially the same. Is there a rundown of the different type of paint there are someplace?

Again thanks for all of you answers...

Gloss Enamel if sprayed wright already has a good shine and you can just wax it but its not easy to get a high gloss smooth finish with enamel on a large area like a car model it takes some practice, Lacquer when sprayed has almost no shine and leaves a flat finish and must be wet sanded and polished to look good.
