In another thread, I mentioned that I have been away from armor modeling for some time. I hadn't stopped modeling though...

I was in a Model Railroad mood and built (and painted) some locomotives.

This one is an HOn30 Porter conversion based on a Life Like 0-6-0 switcher. The kit was by railway recollections in resin. Pretty fun build!

The second is a Life Like SW-8 that I picked up undecorated, and decorated it for a local RR the Reading& Northern. This guy was in N scale (Those decals really sucked to put on!)

So, just so everyone doesn't think I wasn't sniffing glue for the past year and a half...

Yes yes yes another train loopy like myself I just love narrow gauge and have several exhibitions layouts waiting to be put up and joined to make 1 whole complex- I started 1988 and now with Bachman on30 I just gone to DCC and sound -never thought I could afford a sound system
I love your Porter -I actually thought it was on30 -amazing weathering
How well does she run
also the Reading is a great job but I am very biased towards locies and especially Geared Locos have a shay and climax but want another Climax and shay
sorry for going on but seeing you do railways has just enthused me again PKFW111

The porter runs suprisingly well for a non flywheeled motor!

Most of the reason she runs so well, is because of the weighted saddletank insert. There is about 4 ounces of steel shot cast into the piece, so it tracks very well and low speed performance is good.

Thanks for the compliments Ian, I have heard the "I thought it was On30" before!

Here's one you might like:

Here it is under initial test running, before the body is fitted:

The weight it is pulling is 20lb.
The engine is a Roundhouse 16mm "Russell", it is gas fired, steam powered radio controlled.
