I just wanted to share this old Camaro that I built for about 10 years ago.
It is full of dust and I should have brushed it off for the pictures but I was too lazy...
I started off with AMT/Ertl´s -67 Camaro and widened the wheel wells to get the "coke bottle shape" from the -68. Scratchbuilt most of the interior and engine compartment along with the suspension. The exhausts are from aluminium tubing.
I am not sure how accurate this car really is so if any of you have any knowledge of this particular car, please share it.

Hope you enjoy this one from back in the days when I was building cars...

Pelle

Very nice work on the conversions and I love the posing of this model. Mark Donohue's car, right? Maybe it's the pictures, but shouldn't the blue be darker, more like this:

Thanks for the comments you all.
Regarding the colour I remembered when I researched for it, that there where a difference between older cars and newer ones. Maybe the old photos distorted it but the ones I found of the Camaro was the brighter blue.

Your Camaro looks great, nice details in the engine compartment and from what i can see the interior looks good to. i have always liked those old transam cars from the 60's.

From what I remember about "Penske Blue" it was a colour that was used by Roger when he drove and until his race team switched to AMC to race the Javelin he always raced the same colour, where it comes from I'm not sure, I'll do a little checking in the morning.
Cheers

Hello Pelle,
Great looking Camaro, nice job with the engine wiring and plumbing. The interiors rollcage looks about right. As for the right color blue "Sunoco Aristo Blue" was used.

Al,
Yes Mark Donohue was the driver of the Penske Camaro. Donohue died at the age of 38 while practicing an F-1 car in Austria

Pelle,
I thought I had more information on the colour, as I scanned my books on Trans Am racing this AM, no luck .Mother seems to know the colour, I wonder if a color chip or formula still survives?
Anyway thanks for the model, it got me all fired up on Trans Am racings again.
Cheers

Great to hear that I inspired you, Peter. Just keep them old beauties coming.
As for colours on vintage cars, I remember when I was searching for the colour on Richard Pettys cars. It was called "Petty blue" but it seemed to change through the years. Or maybe it was the quality of the photos that improved...

Pelle,
I think sometimes ( before marketing, sponsorship and corporate identity) race car colour was sort of "what do we have in the paint shop?" to "lets paint it blue", I'm sure a colour like "Petty Blue" wasn't standardized until big money came into it...
Although I used to own a 1969 Camaro SS/RS I think I'll start getting some refs together for a Datsun 510, another great Trans Am champion..
Thanks again

You are right, Joker. Kinda reminds me of the movie "Days of thunder" when the sponsors gave them just enough money to put their name on the car, haha.
Looking forward to seeing that Datsun. I am such a racecar junkie...

Cheers

Hey Pelle and Pete,
Not sure if you have seen this site, Slixx.com. It's a great site to get most of your aftermarket parts, and I get most of my stuff there. I'm a big racer fan, mostly NHRA and IHRA. Here is their link;

As for the Sunoco Blue, yes you can still get it from Metro Paints. For Petty blue and other NASCAR colors check this site,

mmmm, thought so. I tried to find out where up here in the "Great White North" ( actually not very white where I live and the cherry blossoms are starting to bud) I could get MCW(?) racing finishes for my Martini and Rossi Porsche 917, but no luck, canada Customs might not like dangerous goods crossing the line and all
Cheers

Pelle,

Very nice! I also thought the blue was a bit darker...but it is still a very nice build!

There seems to be a lot of interest in the old TransAm series here- maybe a TransAm campaign, or a TransAm-IMSA GT campaign to widen it a bit? 1968 (I think that's the 1st TA year) to maybe 1976. Sounds good to me. Anyone remember the AllAmerican GT cars in IMSA- Horst Kwech's Chevy Monzas, Charlie Kemp's Mustang II- awesome stuff...Hans Stuck's BMW CSL-wow!

The Datsun 510- a John Morton car?? Cool!

Jim

I just checked- 1966 was the 1st TA series year.
