Well, as my progress on the '67 GTO wrapped up, I started my '66 GTO. If I didn't post anything on the '67, (not sure), I built it as a "Ridgerunner" or a rum-running car. Here's a quick pic.

No real chrome trim and a totally beefed engine. A roll bar and a jacked suspention. I love and hate AMT. It was fun.

Now, back to the '66.
I asked Gigi (G-Frog) how SHE would like it done, and as a gesture of love...I listened to her and followed her suggestions.
I was totally good with her choice of exterior color. Pearlescant Purple! Right on, I can dig that.
But, she wanted....get this...a PINK INTERIOR!

PINK!?!?!? What's a guy to do? I can't do pink on a venerable GTO. Good grief!

Yeah, I said that in my head of course and looked for a suitable way to have a pink interior in a '66 GTO. :-)

So, I went with "Hot Magenta" and white. It came out nice. I took some dry-fitted pictures to share with y'all.
*Note, these are pictures of the model dry-fitted and not "all glued up". There is no window glass yet and no trim like door handles, mirrors and logo applique.

So, am I a great guy or what? I made a GTO with a hot pink interior! I will have some more pics when I glue it all up. Gigi likes it and thats all that I really worry about. She also staked out the AMT 1965 GTO Convertible for her discretionary input on details. Looking forward to THAT I'll tell ya!

Sorry Murphy. All I only get red x's. Probably due to the pink interior :-)

Yeah, well, since the gallery on Kitmaker.net has been down, I had to go with Yahoo Photos to show my stuff.

Heres a link to the album.

Okay, the red Xs should be gone and I'm understanding the new process of posting pix with the new kitmaker gallery. Great!

So, now that the red Xs are gone, whaddya think?

Me thinks...

It is looking good!
Interior color while being odd itself goes together well with the exterior color, which is very nice BTW.
Good work overall, but why no chrome trim on those beauties?

And I'm sharing exact those same feelings with AMT.
Love and hate at the same time :-)

Thanx Pedro,
I will be doing the chrome on this GTO soon. In fact, I have a few cars to do the chrome on so I think I'll buy a brand new sheet of Bare-metal foil and spend a whole day just doing chrome trim. :-)

Also, at the time I took these pictures, the model was only dryfitted. I had the camera for a few hours and had to take them "as is".

Right now I'm doing a 70 GTO that will look just like this:

I'm looking for another kit with a good blower setup. The kit-supplied one looks silly. I'll do a build thread for this one too.

C Ya!

Murph i love those old Pontiac's there were always my favorites, Revell's 68 Firebird i just finished has a blower in it when i get home i will check it out and let you know. On your moon shine car you could paint the chrome in flat black i don't think those guys wanted to much attention.

ahhhh yes. Brilliant idea! I like it. I loved the Firebird you did. Sweet ride! That would be awesome if ya had a blower. Very cool of you to look.

ANIMAL!!!!! I agree. I've had a love affair with GTOs for a very long time. This is the second time I've done a series of GTO modelyears. Last time I found the elusive 1/25 '68, but, didn't find the '70 until this year. I also found a 70 GTO Dirt Track Racer that I'm saving for the Armorama 500 campaign. KEWL huh?

Talk soon,

Excellent choice of color for the body. As Pedro says, the interior color goes well with the body color.
The hot magenta would probably not be my first choice of colors for my '66 Goat, then again, I'm currently building a Viper GTS with a black and purple interior

Engine looks really good.

Have you considered giving the body a little black pinwashing? It looks as if the white plastic is shining through around the doors.

Looking forward to seeing more of your cool musclecar.

Pinwash, pinwash.....nope, I DON'T know what that is. Can you give me a quick lesson? Oh, and I think that light color around the doors is from the flash. But, I cant say for sure, unless.........

Yeah, I went and looked, it WAS the flash. But I still want to learn about pinwashing.

Peace!

My dream car that I wanted was the 1968 Firebird 400 convertible in arrest me red and four speed. I dreamed of this car my whole tour in Nam. Got back to the world and a lot had changed on the home front and I never got the 68. Still a dream of mine.

Regarding pinwash:
A pinwash is like an ordinary wash, but instead of giving the entire model a wash you only add the wash to limited areas. You can use the pinwash to accentuate panel lines. In case of a car, usually around the doors and trunk lid.
When looking at a 1/1 car, the space between the doors/trunk lid and the body of the car will always look darker than the body color. A pinwash could help create this effect.
I have only used this technique once, on a Buick. Worked like a charm. I made a wash using Valejo flat black acrylics and tapwater. With a small brush I added a drop of the wash around the doors and trunk lid and let it float around in the crevice between the door and the body. If the wash is not to black the body color will shine through the wash, making the body color look darker. This is the effect I try to achieve.

Pinwashing, huh, I'll give it a try. I'm here to learn and that sounds too much like a lesson to pass up.

Thank you.
