I've finally finished my 1/25 Revell plum crazy Dodge Viper GTS, donated by Engin Kayral/Graywolf a few month back.

The body and engine color is plum crazy(Metallic purple) mixed from Humbrol plum, black and a few drops of silver. A color available for Mopars in the early 70's. The metallic effect does not show very well, in the pictures though. I contemplated on giving the car a clear coat with a few drops of silver, to enhance the metallic effect, but decided against it, since I was fairly pleased with the paintjob and didn't want to risk ruining it. I gave the body two coats of paint.
A little black pinwashing was added around the doors and airvents in the hood.

The black triming on the hood is very much inspired by the 1970 Dodge challenger R/T.

The interior is painted in black and plum (Body color without silver)

Except for the flat black parts, the car is brush painted.

I had a few building problems. The body was slightly warped, so fiting of the windscreen and the interior section was quite difficult.

The chrome parts for the kit, is the best looking chrome I have seen for any model car. Very deep chrome. Had some problems with the chrome though. Probably due to it's thickness, it chipped quite easley, when cut from the sprue. A huge(From my point of view) chunk of chrome chipped of, of one of the wheels, when I cut it from the sprue. It must be at least 2x2mm. These are the things, that can make a grown man cry.

Enough talking. Here are the pictures.

That's a fine looking finish there.
BRUSH painted? Jeg tror ikke pa dig!
Please share the method. That you achieved such a nice finish in two coats is amazing.

Looks good, can't tell it was brush painted from the photos.

Yesterday I picked up a car kit and started building it. A big old Revell '34 Ford Street Coupe in 1/16 scale that I found at a thrift store. Paid a whopping $8 for the giant yellow monster.

NIce job, I like engine details. You should get a photo at 'eye level' with the trees in the background (out of focus). It should look really good.

HOW did you get a finish like that with a paint brush,I have spray painted cars that don't look that good.
I'm sure a lot of us would like to know your secret.
Cheers

Thanks for the kudos guys.

It is actually brush painted. Ever since I bought an AB, I have AB all my models, but since I do all my AB outside and we have had a very long and cold winter, in Denmark, I have been forced to brushpaint this model.
Ofcause I have been quite selective with the images. Being careful not to post those images, that show all the flaws of my paintjob

Painting model cars with a brush, I use a flat and very soft sable. I once bought a very expensive flat W&N Kolinske sable, for painting cars, but the bristles were not soft enough, it left brushmarks. I then bought a quite inexpensive and very soft sable, which did the job.
When brushpainting modelcars, I always use Humbrol enamels. I find them superior for this particular use.
When painting large gloss areas, with a brush, I do the opposite of what I would usually do when painting. I put on a fairly thick coat of paint, rather than applying many thin coats. I don't slush the paint on, but apply a coat thick enough for the paint to level it self out, but not so thick it will start to run down the sides of the model. Always paint in the same direction, not back and forth.

No big secret. Just an unorthodox technique, I guess

Thanks again guys.

Glad to see my time near Flyvstation Karob in '84 was well spent.

So...Did you use any sort of polishing compound on the paint, or put wax on it?

Nice work on your Viper Jesper and i agree with everbody else the brush painted body looks great , your model illustrates what can be done with a brush and a little hard work, looks like a nice clean build, what will you do next.

Thanks for your kind words Robert.

Currently I'm working on a 54mm figure and a 1/35 IS-3M Russian heavy tank. When I have finished these projects, it's time for another car. I yet have to decide which one to build. I will most likely go for a classic muscle car.
