I have the ERTL/AMT kit of this car that I've been picking at . Yours looks like the Revell kit to me . The # 29 car that you did was awesome - so I'll be peaking at yours and give a few of you tricks a try . I have a couple of the Revell pro-finish kits that could use a few touch-ups as well. Keep up the great work , later on Toad .

The interior is outstanding. Running the lines and padding is well done.

I'll ask what your plan for the very bottom of the side skirts (term ?). It looks like the black skirt on the 1:1 is not as 'tall' as the last 1-2 feet of right in front of the rear wheel. On the model it looks all even? Plans to cut this to match?
The driver side roof ribs front to back don't exits on the 1:1 image. I've seen these on some cars for some tracks. Again, done on purpose?

This is a cool subject, I like it.

the side skirts can be differant depending on what track they are at, and which side the exhuast pipes are on..

Hey James,
The roof ribs Scott is talking about are the "Roof Rails" At high speeds airflow over a smooth surface can create lift. These strips "Roof Rails" are designed to break up streamlined airflow across that lift. Also they channel the air flow down to the rear spoiler to create down force.

The "Side Skirts" is a skirting that keeps air from getting under the car if it moves or gets sideways. These skirts also act as tunnel that keeps the air underneath the car and provide downforce, creating a vacuum that sucks the car to the track.

Darn it all I ment to comment on your progress James. This car is looking awsome, love all the detail work. The seat came out wonderful. Your MSD ignation boxes and coils, did you scratch them or aftermarket.

Have you ever tempted to make working roof flaps! I have, took a good few trys. I was able to make them work. Did it once like 11-12 years ago on a fully detailed Shawna Robinson Bush car.

Looking real sharp, can't wait to see it painted up.

Joe

home made everything from some old electronic parts from a computer mouse..

I never made the open flaps before, they wouldnt be open anyway unless the car is crashing lol, you can get them though in P.E. metal on the Dale Earnhardt no bull PE set from model car garage

Outstanding work James. The amount of details are incredible.
What did you use for roll bar padding and zip ties?

I see Mother commented on the parts I had asked about. I hope he made it clearer as to what parts I was talking about.
Nothin' big.

All scratch built items - very nice.

I used black elctrical tape for the padding. also used it for the sip-ties, just cut it into really thin strips.

Man - I hate posting in threads like this! That's why I don't for the most part because there's little to say that's original...

But - if I didn't - then I couldn't say how much I like this modeling work too! I rarely get to see such a fine effort spent on a NASCAR subject in person, let alone on the 'Net. This is shaping up to be a very nice miniature!

thanks guys!

I did a bit on the rims today.

Im using wheels and tires from the older revell kits as they are much better looking and fit better!

im just waiting on the new style "goodyear" decals from JWBTM to come in the mail, they should be here in a few days and then i can finish detailing the tires!

I'm really enjoying these updates. With lots of in progress pictures, one can really see how much work goes into a great looking model like this.
The primed body looks very smoooooth.
Amazing amount of details on the wheels.
Keep us posted James.
