I haven’t made a 50's car in a long time, so I decided to pick up this AMT kit.
Overall it’s a great kit considering it was first released back in 1963 I think!

Some progress so far.

Wow Jim this one is going to look great, those fifty's cars rock...big, heavy and shinny. Your right...for an AMT kit she looks crisp, very nice detail. What colors are you going for, maybe two-tone. Looking forward to the next post.

Jim the Batt looks gook, great choice on the colors. What are your plans on bringing out the chrome "Fairlane" on the tail. If you don't mind I'd like to pass on a tip you may or may not know. If so at least a few other my pick up on it.

Before painting I'll lay down the Bare Metal Foil, then with a fresh no.#11 blade I'll trim as close as I can. Then just paint, once it dries I'll take a extra fine brush and dip into a thinner and slowly remove the paint to reveal the chrome. Keep us posted…

Joe

Jim where you located in Canada, I have a kit that could use your touch...

I use the same method with the BMF, I do that for all the emblems and any side moldings on the car. then i just use a soft cloth and some polish to remove the paint .

I really like the look of that engine. Is the fan PE? it looks quite sharp.
Excellent choice of colors. The Light yellow/white combo has always been a favorit of mine.

may be of help, though the chip for Doeskin tan has withered a bit.

I think a colonial white/ inca gold Fairlane is going to rock

I allways wanted to do mine in two tone blue ( Starmist blue / Dresden blue ), but was unable to find approximate colors.

Anyway, mine is beyond restoration now anyways.

heres the paint scheme i came up with,
its Krylon "buttercream" and white

the first pic shows the actual color pretty close.

also I had to make new "ridges" on the tops of the front fenders, it seems one side of the fender was higher then the other. i think they turned out pretty good

The two tone paintjob looks incredible James. The BMF look incredible as well. Sharp and clean.

I browsed mrmodel's website. Lots of good stuff.

I have been searching for Krylon paints, but so far with little luck. They are just not available in Denmark. I will try Motip. They have a quite large range of colors. Any experience with Motip?

the rust is just acrylic paint and some pastels, I apply the paint like you would if making a stencil..

Wow - what a suprise scrolling down and watching that car age quickly.
Well done.
I do have one critique - the base edge is a bit naked. I'd love to see a bit of a fancy trim on it. The car and groundwork are great!
