company info
Romeo Models is an Italian company procuding 54 mm. and 90 mm. metal figures and resin figure bases. Being the sister company of
Pegaso Models, working with super talented sculptors like
Gianni La Rocca and
Historicus Forma member Maurizio Bruno brought it to the top in a short period. After I met the company owner
Lorenzo Romeo in Athens Show 2006 and had the pleasure to see he is a very good person supporting the hobby and painters so much, highly interested about the feedbacks to his figures, always open to new ideas and improvement, I believe Romeo Models will stay at the top for long years.
about the figure
Romeo Models 54-56 represents a Templar knight in 13th century with battle axe wearing the traditional garment of the Order, a plain white tunic with a red cross. Depending on the painters choice, it can also be painted as a
Crusader in the Holy Land or as a
Noble Western European Secular Knight.

The figure comes in 125 x 85 x 30 mm.standard Romeo Models light blue cardboard box. The front cover shows a photo of the painted figure from 3 different angles – front, back and face close up from left.
Inside the box, there is a paper sheet including a short historical note about Templar knights and painting instructions for this figure. This document is prepared by
Lorenzo Romeo,owner of Romeo Models and presented in Italian and English.
Parts are well protected between two slabs of thick white polyfoam and figure base is placed seperately under the polyfoam to protect parts from an unexpected damage.

The figure is sculpted by Italian master
Gianni La Rocca and made up of 9 white metal parts. The parts are cast clean and crisp in very good details. There is no need for a serious cleanwork, sanding or filling. The pins on the parts make the assembly easier and provides a good fit. A fast brushing with a metal brush and washing the figure will make it ready for priming.
The main part is upper torso with head. He wears a helmet with nasal-nose guard over mail coif which covers the neck and ears. The front part of the mail coif is a seperate part and cast in open position giving the painter a chance to paint facial details. Beard, moustache, texture of chain mail coif, ties of the face cover and facial details are well defined. He wears a white surcoat and folds of the coat is well presented.
Other parts are;
- Left leg with lower torso : Folds of the surcoat, leather belts, belt buckels, chain mail leggins, leather shoes,prick spurs and straps are well defined. There is a hole on the left side to make sword assembly easier. Two pins inside meet the two holes on the right leg very good and makes a good fit.
- Right leg with lower torso : All details are well defined as in left leg.
- Right arm with battle axe : Posed to grap the axe, the mail hauberk and surcoat folds are well defined. Note that the handle of the axe needs a fast cleaning with blade or sanding.
- Left arm : Posed to hold the shield. The hole on the hand makes a good fit with the shield.
- Kite shield ; Studs on the edges, inner padding and leather straps are well defined. You may add some battle damage on the shield with your modelling knife before painting.
- Sword : He carries a sword with short cross guards in leather scabbard.
- Dagger : He carries a dagger with no pommel and a rosary hanged on the hilt of dagger is a good detail.
- Figure base ; Ground texture and a few small rocks are well represented. Two holes for the legs and a hole to place the shield make the assembly easier
conclusion
High quality casting, easy assembly and perfect fit with pins on parts, nice details and multiple painting options.
A classical subject as a Templar knight but when compared to the others on market; being armed with battle axe and perfect facial expression makes it a masterpiece.
