An Allied WWII kit? Two of them? Run for the Hills Ma!!!! Verlinden did all Allied (remember them, they WON the war) figure builders a favor by releasing two nicely done 101st Airborne figures from the Normandy Campaign. While they appeared to have tied the kits loosely to the "Band of Brothers" story, they will work for just about any 101st unit in Normandy.One kit is trooper armed with an M-1 Garand (I'll by just about any Garand-armed kit), and the second --- which will be reviewed here -- is armed with a Thompson SMG in a firing position.
The Kit
The kit breaks down as usual, separate head, arms etc and a two-piece torso.The sculpting and molding is awsome, this kit really looks nice. However, pant seams etc. seem to be hit or miss with Verlinden (unlike other companies like S&T which really do that well). Seems are not apparent on this kit. But that asides it really looks nice.Foliage is molded to the helmet as is the field dressing and it looks good.A 45 holster, shovel, pack, flashlight two bayonet scaboards and several small packs round out the load on this guy. All are well done. The 101st patch is molded on the left arm, though I plan un sanding it off and using a decal.The grip of the thompson is molded to the right hand, so that should make fit easier and convincing. The gloved hands are also nicely done.A base is provided that includes debris, discarded MG-34 ammo containers, a German ammo box, and "egg" grenades. I plan on making my own base, but may try to cut these items out of the resin base.Since I haven't started this kit (hmmmm, where on the list will it fall?) I can't comment on fit, but my experience with Verlinden has been good in this area.For just about $25, this is a darn nice kit.
