Introduction
Committed of the company motto (“The ancient world in your hands”) Ares Mythologic keeps on making nice miniatures of historical personalities, and that in itself is a real statement. From the first time I laid hands on this company’s miniatures, every one has made me feel that they are making a serious effort to produce good quality miniatures for the modeler.
The subject of this review is item AM-54T-65 Perseo (Perseus), clutching the severed head of Medusa
The kit
A dark red hard carton box contains a plastic zipper bag. Inside this, foam protection holds safely all 8 white metal pieces of the figure.
The weight of the box is pretty heavy for a 54 mm figure. Perseo is in a standing pose with one foot slightly bended and he is holding the head of Medusa, after he had decapitated her.
A small single sheet leaflet featuring a short historical note (in Spanish), a painting guide for the figure and the contact information for the company is included.
Pieces:
The Torso including head and legs Left arm Right arm holding sword Shield Head of Medusa Small bag Cloak Small baseQuality and Detail
This is another great figure from Ares. It features nice clean sculpting with clearly defined details. The armor definition is light and not too intense. The cloak fits well, as do the arms.
There are some thin molding lines on the sides, which will need some attention with a sharp blade. Fortunately these don’t run over any critical points or detail spots, so the modeler will be able to remove them easily.
Material - metal – is good, the surface is relatively smooth and clean and the total look is this of a good modern figures company.
To improve what you get, you will just to need a soft touch with fine steel wool, to polish the metal. Then some washing in bath with a mild detergent – water mix to make it as clean as it gets before priming.
Painting
This is a colorful figure to paint; there are plenty of reds, blues, gold, leather, and different textures to recreate. The painting scheme is relatively free on the cloak and dress, so you can make your choices. This will be a nice piece when finished.
It’s not really a difficult piece for novice painters. Good sculpting and definition of items will help the painter to set the limits.
Give this figure the time it needs to paint the detail, and be patient with colors laying, and especially the metals, and you will be well rewarded.
Conclusion – Final Verdict
Visit Ares Mythologic’s website. This is a good and decent company with nice figures and interesting subjects. This figure is really nice 54mm figure and the result will reward all of your efforts.
