WA 35559 Combat Cameraman kit includes a 1/35 scale resin World War II US figure. He represents a combat cameraman filming and can be built as an ETO or Pacific War figure. Due to the relaxed posed he is probably shooting a non-action scene.
box
The kit comes in a clear plastic box along with a color label showing a photo of the figure painted by Chris Mrosko. The photo is important because there is no assembly or painting guide supplied with the kit which leaves the boxart as the main construction reference. Inside the box the figure parts are contained in a zip lock bag.
parts
The figure is sculpted by Bill Chillstorm and made up of six light cream colored resin parts. Casting is clean and the details are crisp and well defined. A little easy work is needed to separate the parts from casting blocks and to clean the slightly visible vertical seamline on the left side.
The torso and legs are molded as one piece. He wears a shirt, loose trousers and boots with leggings. The pockets, buttons, folds in the cloth and details of the leggings are all well defined. A M1936 pistol belt, M1910 water bottle and M1916 sidearm holster are molded with the figure to make assembly easier. The holster is nicely stamped with "U.S." initials.
Small parts are:
- Head
- M1 Steel helmet
- Right arm
- Left arm
- 2 hands holding the camera
The head is molded with good facial details and can be used as a bald head without helmet. The fit to the collar hole is perfect.
The inside of M1 Steel helmet is cast as filled. So you should either carve out the interior of helmet or cut the upper part of head to fit the helmet.
Arms are nicely cast with cloth folds and the fit to shoulders is very good.
Despite the small scale the camera is well detailed and hands are posed nicely. I think the hardest step of this build is gluing the hands with camera into a filming position . Careful work is needed for a good fit. I advise you to study the boxart carefully and check alignment several times after pre-assemblying the head and arms.
conclusion
This is a different subject and a nice addition to WW II US dioramas. Attractive posing, good molding quality , ease of clean up and practical assembly with six parts and nice details make this a figure that is recommended for all WW II US modelers.
Thanks to
