ICM's set of pilots and groundcrew consists of 41 parts for 7 figures and is flawlessly moulded in white plastic. The quality of these figures is quite exceptional - the crisp detail is on a par with Tamiya's best. All the figures are multi-part, so there is plenty of scope for some "mix and matching" to vary the poses. The figures included are:
1 x Pilot standing at ease.
1 x Pilot strapping on a parachute.
1 x Groundcrewman assisting with the parachute.
1 x Groundcrewman squatting with a screwdriver.
2 x Standing croundcrew - one holding a toolbox.
1 x Standing officer dressed in a leather greatcoat who, in the illlustration at least, bears a marked resemblance to Adolf Galland - he even has his obligatory cigar!
The sculpting and proportions of the figures is excellent and the faces all have individual character. I compared the figures with photos in "Uniforms & Insignia of the Luftwaffe Vol. 2" from Arms & Armour, and the uniforms and equipment details seem spot on.
There's not much by way of instructons - just a parts diagram and a drawing of the assembled figures which also serves as a painting guide. ModelMaster paint matches are quoted throughout.
ICM seem to have spotted a niche in the market and their RAF, Soviet, USAAF and, now, Luftwaffe figures have all been excellent. If they maintain this quality for future releases, they deserve to do very well indeed. At just 9 euros for 7 figures, ICM's set represents remarkable value for money. Highly recommended.
ICM have released a high quality set of 1/48 scale figures which will be very useful to Luftwaffe modellers.
