When I got home from work today (yes some people have the great fortune of working on New Years Day) I found that my daughter had already put the wheels together for me... So I guess I have started my build!!!

Obligatory "unboxing" photo:

Fair amount of parts (and detail) in this kit, along with Revell's standard large decal sheet for their race vehicles.

First thing was to remove the chrome from the wheels and exhaust...and that's all I got done so far

Mercedes C111 completed. The horrible black bits on the roof are where the kit is supposed to have opening gullwing doors....needless to say they don't work! Detail is really basic, as it started as a motorised kit.

I hope the next entry turns out better than this one.

I'm doing these not-motorcycles

First, a look inside the box

Then we spread the parts out to get a look at them. The Messerschmitt:

The BMW:

In both cases, the black sprue is Gunze's infamous vinyl. Why they decided to use it for such parts as the seats and floor pan of the BMW I'll never know. It's also the sealant outline of the windows, for which purpose it's the most useless substance on the face of the Earth, since it's deformed itself to a shape almost but not entirely unlike that of the actual window outline. Also, very little but Superglue will get a grip on the stuff, meaning that fogged windows are a definite risk. There's no wonder why this kit is hardly ever seen completed.

Anyway, being a girl after the wingy-thingy persuasion, I'm left at a bit of a loss as to how to start these, since there's no cockpit, which is the traditional way to start a build in my usual circles

Brian...I use plain old household bleach to strip chrome. Does a good job and I can dump it in the sink for a bit of sanitizing

Erik...nice choice, should be a beauty. Color choice yet?

Hakan...good start with the saw...you're a brave man!

Dave...wow, you finished as much in 3 days as I did all last year Nice job on a very cool looking car.

Jessie...hey, cars have cockpits too! Or wings on that BMW would look like an egg plane! Interesting subject to say the least!

I'm laying off the Tamiya lacquers for this one and doing it completely in acrylics, we'll see how that works out

Jessie

I have the same kits in my stash. For the window surrounds I thought about using a contact glue such as UHU or Evo-stick? Either that or masking the window surrounds and painting them. I think the interiors should be held in place by the bodywork.........

James, no color choice yet.
But it's gone be a two-tone.
I know a guy that can help me with the real colors of VW.
It's gone be a surprise.

Jessie: Just love the fact that there only 3 wheels for each vehicle. That fact is true to most aircraft so you don't seem to be straying too far off mark... That seems to be quite the kit! Everything from vinyl to photo-etch wow!

James: Thanks for the tip!! I might have to surprise the missus and do some sanitizing

Hakan: Looking forward to your "surprize"!!

Hello to all and a Happy New Year!

After a thoroughfull contest, I'm ready to tackle Hasegawa's BMW 327. My first idea was Revell's MB 190, but I've finished tooo recently their Jaguar XK120...
As soon as I've got my first pics, I'll post it.

Regards
Javier
