Hi Guys,

I made a small dent in the German BMW R75.

Clear instructions an parts numbering; nice plastic and not too much flash — really nice PE. I only had one very minor issue so far … the alignment pin holes needed a little wallering-out to ensure a proper fit. Here are few WIP images.

Main assembly, PE fret and decal sheet.


When removing the molded plastic seat spring, I suggest leaving very short nubs on the seat and bike-frame in order to hold the replacement metal "Slinky" spring in place ... really glad I had the forethought to do that, otherwise ... BOINGGG!!!



Wheel and spoke assembly (PE parts A and B).


I’m really enjoying this kit so far!

Yes they are little rubber hoses, and the kit is very very good. Typical Tamiya, great to build and easy to understand instructions. I can't decide what colour the red and white or the blue. Aclad II was the paint of choice for the engine and works perfect.

Whittling-down the sprues ... rear-end, front-end, and sidecar assemblies.
WHEW!!!

At this stage, I think it's time to plan pre-assembly painting steps before moving on much further.

Right hand side, so it's coming along nicely, hopefully I'll get some more done this weekend. I have to say I was a little surprised at the level of detail Tamiya managed to squeeze into this one, even the chain looks pretty good.

Hi guys! Here’s another BMW R75 update … and spoiler alert!

General assembly note: Anytime there is an alignment hole, check for fit — you’ll most certainly need to open it up somewhat to accommodate the corresponding pin — even the large square opening on top of the fuel tank.

Step 3 (rear wheel assembly). The kit does not allow for the rear wheel to rotate. However, I managed to keep the axle and brake drum assembly (A21 / A45) free-floating from the inner spoke rims (PEA / PEB). This allows free rotation of the entire spoke/wheel/tire assembly for later ease of painting. Note: The front wheel assembly can be built to rotate freely.

Step 4 (exterior frame). Part A26 (RH) should not be used if you intend to attach the sidecar. The PE shields (PE14 / PE15) — the slots needed to be opened-up in order to fit the exhaust pipes (A13 / A14) through.

Steps 5 thru 6 (fork assembly). This was probably the most wobbly part! Note: The headlight housing (A65) needs to be positioned forward enough to clear the upper fork crossmember (A57).

Step 9 (sidecar to bike assembly). A few more tricky fit issues, but it might just be me again.

PS: The Jerry Can assembly was easy!

I decided to scratch-build a strap for the Jerry Can. Adds a little realism ... I hope.


Needs a little clean-up before paint but I think that's gonna' do it for the fiddly parts.

PS: That was not easy!
