I have been experimenting lately with different burnt out effects lately. As you can see in some pics I have tried simulating carbon fibers as they literally tear into almost thread-like material, by using disinfection wipes. It looks 'OK' but not quite perfect. I have added more modulation effects on the cab and more weathering on the overall cab and truck as a whole.

The right tyre is flat. It is difficult to tell with all the ashes surrounding it. And yes, my reference photo had a similar attribute. I know most would wonder why the right tyre did not get burnt to a crisp like the left tyre...
In most cases depending on the degree of the fire and where it was most intense. I have seen photos with similar attributes.

I think , I am satisfied with the results , especially, after taking some outside photos of the model.

Beautiful work as always Charles, well done!

Can you give some details on the paints you used here?

Cheers, D

Thank you kindly. First of all I still do not use an air brush, since I started modeling back in 2003. I am working on teaching myself in the near future, God willing.

Ok. A short over view of what I did. The effect is rather simple. I used Rust, black, Grey and white pigments. I started off with painting everything with Tamiya Grey base spray paint.

Then I started off with Mig rust pigment over everything. Then I moisten everything with a AK interactive solution. Then I spray everything with a Matt spray. This fixes the pigments in place as well as gives it a kind of pattern due to the chemical reacting to each other, which I kinda like.

Then I just added Grey, black and different shades of rust pigments little at a time until I got the effect I wanted. I used a little white pigment from Humbrol. It helps to have photo of your reference truck in front of you.

Before I started, I collected many photos of Burnt out trucks to get get an idea of what the different effects look like. That is pretty much it.

Then the last thing I did was used the sponge effect to add some white paint at various areas on the truck, to break up the monotone overall burn effect.

I hope this is helpful.

Thanks for the info on your process, very helpful. As you said, for this type of build good reference images are essential. I am collecting images of rusty and "barn find" 57 Chev convertibles for a pending project, and the variation in paint wear and fading, rust and physical damage in amazing.
This is the car I have chosen to follow, I have about a dozen images from all angles.

Thank you D. Your project will be eager to to see it finished. I downloaded many photos of Burnt trucks, with vary of burns. So I went through them and picked out certain uniqueness from all of them.

Charles,
I don't get to the Truck forum often enough as I once again missed one of your posted builds that's been here for a year now. My sincerest apologies.

As I've said on both of your other builds, the level of your work, detailing, painting, and weathering is just beyond description.

Well done, very well done.

Thanks Joel, once again for your comment. Always a pleasure to see others views on ones work. Yep. Not alot of folks visit this part of the forums. I guess trucks or civil vehicles are not on their list of interesting things to see. Nonetheless, its always a pleasure to get ARV visitors on this end.

If this wasn't a modelling site, I'd sworn that burnt out MAN was for real! Exquisite work and a great eye for detail, BRAVO!

Thank you for sharing!
