Michael,
You're making excellent progress on a pretty difficult build. The kit kind of reminds me of a 1/43 scale multi media kit on steroids.

Excellent job on the bumper attachment points. Those Boranni wire wheels are certainly the main focal point of the kit. Truly impressive.

Nicely done on shortening and narrowing the chassis. Giving up the disc brakes is a small concession for sure. Is there any chance that you can glue them into the backs of the wheels so that they don't take up any additional space needed for the axle?

although not a "shake n bake" kit Micheal, this has all the ingredients to make an excellent model!

Really enjoying watching you bring this kit to life!

Hi Michael

Looks good.

Love the look of that PE grill. I have lot's of builds that would have benefited, from a PE grill, like that.

I agree Jesper, I think most kits of this vintage would have given us a solid chrome plastic grill.

Hi, Michael! It turns out to be a nice if quirky kit. I loved the way you have dealt with the issues so far and I see you have a very good "feel" for small but very effective improvements.

Gabriel

Thanks Gabriel. The kit calls out for improvement and I have really only focused on the exterior because I bought this to practice my painting skills. The interior will be straight out of the box and while there are some nice touches it is basic.

Hi Michael.

This looks like one of those kits that will be both very challenging but ultimately very rewarding when you get those modifications and details just how you want them.

Following with much interest here.

Cheers, D

Ha, the old challenge/reward trade off! I know what you mean Damian, the satisfaction is greater if took effort. Somehow I don't think kit designers aim for that but they always seem to get there anyway, especially the older ones. Something you have a keen interest in judging by your recent purchases

Thanks Joel. I have already shaved off the hub on the rear of the disc brake which gained me 1mm each side. I think I need to do the front of the hub as well but the caliper will probably prevent any gains there. I will keep fiddling to find an answer since you can seen the discs through the wire wheels.

Hey Russ, glad to hear from you. As you may have noticed my lack of progress in the ship building front, cars are a great alternative. When are you going to join us with a build?

It's all very tempting mate, but I've been trying to finish this one for the last 3 years!

As you can see, I've got about half way, then it's adorned a shelf whilst I concentrated on floaty and wingy thingies

Still, the KGV is up to a point now where I'm just waiting for a specialist tool to arrive to allow me to cut rods squarely and then I can complete the masts and cable reels then it's off to the paint shop and then completion. An update will be posted soon

That'll allow me to get back to the Trans Am before delving back into my stash of wing things!

Well I've never been a fan of muscle cars myself but I look forward to seeing it completed once the King is crowned.

There is not much to the interior of the Ferrari, at least as represented in the kit. A couple of metal seats, a gear shift and the dash which is installed by glueing to the base of the windscreen. I am not sure how that will go but here is the dash

Onto the bodyshell. The last thing to do was clean out the scoop on the bonnet. It was shown as a flat plastic. There was a small piece of photo etch that was meant to be fixed to it but it was too small for the space.

Looking at a few photos on the web show many cars just have it as a clear scoop so that is the look I went for.
I don't have a photo post the clean out but the photos post the priming show the improvement.

The second photo also shows a missed seam line between headlight and grill opening. Always more to do.

cheers

Looking good Michael. All of those little extra touches like opening up the intakes and grilles add a lot to the end result. Why paint something black to imitate an opening when a little effort can create a real opening?

Looking forward to more progress.

Michael,
What a huge improvement once the body is primed. The scoop really looks quite good, and all that was there was a small mesh screen to keep out all sorts of airborne bugs and stuff from getting sucked into the carbs.

The dash came out great, especially the what I think was a Nardy wood wheel.

Thank you Joel, I just wish the piece of grill they had provided was big enough for the gap. I will either leave it open or think of an alternative. The dash, believe it not, was chrome so I just painted it semi-gloss black and used paint remover to reveal the chrome bezels. The dials are photoetch and dry brushed black. They don't survive close examination but look the part and of close you won't be able to see them at all once installed.

Can only second what the other guys have said Michael-looks great!

Those A pillars straightened up nicely!

PS. I'm a sucker for a good muscle car

The Ferrari has gone red, rosso corsa, of course.

Gravity paints USA this time. They are great to spray and pretty forgiving.
Detailing up next on the window surrounds. I think I will try the chrome pen approach and see how that works out.

Good to see some color on this beauty.

Will be interesting to see, how the chrome pen work pans out. Will that be a Molotow chrome pen?

Michael,
Looking fantastic with the Gravity Ferrari Red Rosso Corsa Paint. Gravity has at last count 5 different shades of Ferrari Red paint. I ended up using this exact color from them for my Ferrari 330 P4.
Their paints are just the best of the best.

Hi Michael

Sorry I missed your build until now. This is looking really great! You've done a lovely job cleaning up the previous modeller's work.

I agree with you about the wire wheels - they are spectacularly good!

All the best

Thanks Jesper. Yes, it is a 1mm Molotow pen. I tried it on a piece of sprue. It looked good, I am just not sure how it will go on here as it does flow quickly. The main reason though is to see if saves masking up all the window frames because I find brushed painted silver never looks that good. Pictures in a day or so.

Thanks for checking it out Rowan. I dont know why they stopped making kits, because the good parts are very good, like the wheels and the grill.

Cheers
