Amazing how much one can miss in just one week away camping with the family!
Looking great Joel!

Very nice work on the paint there Joel. As you said, the slight seepage is cleaned up smartly with a fine wet sand. Looking at the profiles and paint demarcations involved, you did a super job not to have more issues there.

D,
Thanks for checking out my 956 build. I'm really thrilled that you like my 1st multi paint scheme race car. I've always tried to keep it single color, but it's coming out better then I expected it would.

Hey Richard,
So glad to see that you dropped by to keep on the straight path. How's the bike restoration coming along? I haven't been on Aeroscale in a while, so I don't know if you've started another plane with Red ball insignias, or are actually going to start your bike build here, which would be amazing.
This weather is just brutal. Sure hope that you're warm and toasty n NJ.

Gary,
Me too. I was a Huge fan of Paul Newman as an actor, driver, and car owner. But the Yellow/White/Black scheme was never one I ever considered by a long shot.
BTW, I've finished two 4 hour decal sessions on the front shell, and I'm about 70% complete at this point. I've done the demarcation stripes, and they took care of the little bit of paint that worked it's way under the tap on the rolled edges. I'm really impressed to say the least.

Well, another week has passed, and I've actually got enough done for an update. This time it's all about the decals.
All told it took 16 hrs. to decal the front and rear body shells. This build, like all the others to date have been decaled with IndyCal decals. And as usual, they preformed perfectly, completely in register, and the colors absolutely match my references.
My car decaling procedure is slightly different then when I was building aircraft. Once the final color has been applied, the following day I lightly rubbed it out with a wet piece of Tamiya #3,000 sponge. This both knocked down the ridge between the Blue and the White colors, as well as smoothed out the Matt paint surface so that I didn't need a coat of clear gloss.
Decaling is all about applying the decals to a smooth and consistent surfacem so that there is no flash nor silvering once the decals dries. To accomplish this, the surface needs to be consistent and smooth, therefore no places for those dreaded air pockets to form and cause Silvering and flash issues.
I started on the front shell working my way from the top down, then one side, the other side, and then the front clip. The IndyCal decals are printed on a single decal sheet, so you have to trim each decal as close to it as possible. Then a quick bath in warm water that I changed every so often. Would be really nice if I can find a coffee mug warmer with a regulating temp knob.
I use the usual Microscale system of Sol, Set, then vary it with Walther's Solvaset, allowing each solution enough time to work it's magic on the decal before rolling it into place.
After the front shell was done, I decaled the rear shell.
As of this point in the process, there is no clear gloss blending coat for the start of the gloss finish process. I still have a lot of touch up painting to accomplish, trimming some of the decals, and then some detail painting.
And now you're up to date on my Porsche 956 build. Thanks to all for stopping by and checking it out.

Very well spent 16 hours, Joel!
If there are any touch-ups to be made, it's only you that can see them because I haven't noticed nothing obvious.
There is no need for me to state the obvious, but I'm gonna doing it nonetheless: it looks as close to perfection as it can be!
And that was a decisive step forward: you have entered basically in the last lap!
Looking forward for the next update!

Gabriel,
You're much to kind. Just look at the two air intakes at the front of the nose clip. I rubbed off some of the blue paint smoothing out the surface, so I'll have to re-air brush those spots. Also I need to touch up the dark blue by the headlight housing where the gold decal meets it. Plus I still need to paint the housing base flat Black. And those side grills with the white lettering over them, I need give them a good doss of Tamiya black panel wash as they're supposed to be vents. I cut the decal in each recess, but you can still see them.

Jesper,
Thanks my friend for stopping and, and liking my latest efforts to date. It's much appreciated.
I'm sorry if I didn't write my decaling process out correctly. I don't alternate Micro Sol, set, and then Solvaset. I use a modified system of Micro Sol, Set, & Solvaset which really sucks the decals down especially into all the nooks & crannies. I do let the solutions work for a longer period of time then I originally did. I don't touch the decal until it's about 70% dry, that gives each solution enough time to work it's magic.
For really difficult decals, (Asian decals especially), I use Mr. Sol & Mr. Setter by Mr. Hobby. They're very strong and will the toughest of decals to eventually behave.

Extraordinary build and informative log as per usual, Joel!
Decal work needs patience but is time consuming and you did a great job. One have to stay focussed and straight on with the procedures, better not beeing disburbed by any actions around.
As I rember right, you suffer on a bad steroscopic vision because of your eyes, isn't it?. So this is even more remarkable - cudos!
I'm sure, you can manage the few paint touch ups properly.
Now I'll have to look for my sunglasses and the next glossy update...
Cheers, Th mas

Thomas,
Thanks so much my friend for stopping by and checking out my progress to date. Yep, I have only one usable eye, and the right eye isn't so great either. This is one of the main reasons why the decals took me as long as they did. But the only thing that really counts is that the end product is up to standards.

Hi Joel
Wow! You say there's still a lot of touch-up painting to do, but it's already looking fantastic! Even after all my years modelling, I still always get a real buzz at that moment when a kit suddenly starts to come to life with the application of the decals.
All the best

Rowan,
thank you my friend for those most kind words. So glad that my work gave you that special modelers buzz. I to still get it at times.
Unfortunately, there's still a long way to go to get to the finish line, and a lot of it is Air Brush painting, and very careful brush painting. Just the flat base of the headlight compartments are flat black, not Blue. I'm currently working on the dash, and then those dreaded harness assembly. But I'm getting there as time permits.
