We could combine this with part of the "Big 3" theme proposed by Andy (betheyn), and involve the neighbours across the channel, so in effect a "Union Jack and Tricolore" Group Build.

As soon you've said Big 3, I thought of Antanta, but Russia is poorly represented in modelling world as well. That's a shame one cannot find a Lada Niva in 1/24th scale!

Yes, including France the selection widens considerably, considering truck models and racers.

Don, my supplier carries no less than 4 Odyssey releases:

Thank you for the Odyssey links. I know what I'll build if it ever fits into a group build.
Take care,

Hi team AutoModeler!

I am still mulling over the subject for the next Group Build. Given the success of the Blue Oval, and the popularity of the current Race Theme, I really want to keep up the momentum. In the current very trying climate around the world, the last thing I want to do is run a topic that will potentially limit the range of kits available and thereby the number of participants.

Throwing some ideas around, we could look at a similar "Country of Origin" theme but choose a country with a broader range of kits available. Germany, Italy, USA or Japan for example.

Alternatively, Joel's most recent "Dream Cars" theme would give freedom of choice limited only by kit availability.

As always, thoughts, ideas and feedback please!

Cheers, D

Afraid my stash isn't providing much opportunity. Two Italian (Ferrari and a Lamborghini), two British (DB5 and an MGB) and one German (VW type 82). Unless you count the Kubelwageon, Schwimwagon, a couple of 1/35 motor cycles and a Kettenrad.

Both group builds would be fine for me, as would be the listed countries of origin. And I seem to have a French subject in stash too.

I'd really be keen on the Dream Car theme which could mean a lot of different things, just depends are where we want to go with it. Lets say that any type of car, any era, any make is fair game. The only stipulation is that the car has to be in real life roadable. And maybe each of us has to say why that car is our dream car in our opening post.

For me the British/Commonwealth theme works but in some way the Dream car theme is useful because I could take a break from the campaign focus and get some other kits done.

Any theme will do it for me.
My dream car doesn't exist in plastic - Fiat 850 that is - but I'm going to replace it with a so much better Mercedes 300SL gullwing.
German cars I have a bunch.
British cars I have one and a campaign will give me the opportunity to work it out from the stash, as she isn't in my top list.

Cheers!

Ok, I think it's time to take a vote. There doesn't seem to be a clear leader here. Choose your first and second preference from the following list. First preference gets 2 points, second preference gets 1 point. I will leave the vote open for one month from today then declare the winner and start the lead-up discussion thread.

In the case of a tied result, I will scrap the whole idea and we will all build Chevy's

1. Dreams are Free! - Follow your dreams, build the car, bike or truck that you would love to have sitting in the garage!

2. Best of British/French - Anything designed and manufactured under the Union Jack or Tricolore

3. Country of Origin - USA

4. Country of Origin - Japan

5. Country of Origin - Germany

6. Country of Origin - Italy

Over to you guys!

Cheers, D

Well, I have two from 2, five or six from 3, one from 5 and one from 6 or I could claim the Italian one is a dream car. If I had to rank them, then

Well now there is a fairly clear trend emerging, that's what I wanted to see!

My preferences are 1 followed by 2.

I've had another thought (because my brain just won't stop!). The Garage Queens is an annual event, running Jan-Dec. GB2 (currently Race Theme) runs April-Oct and GB3 runs Nov-Mar. How about we run a second perpetual annual Group Build with a Race Theme running Jul-Jun?

We can call it the JW Cup

There is obviously a huge amount of interest in the Race Theme, and having it offset from the other Group Build timelines and running for 12 months, it could allow for a slow build and super detailing (looking at you two, Nick and Joel ).

Thoughts?

D,
I'm both amazed and truly humbled at the thought of any GB being named after me.

With that being said, my true passion for road racing cars of every type & era can be applied to just about any GB we have, with maybe the exception of the Dreams Are Free theme, and I can see that as well if it's just whatever your dream car is for what ever reason it is.

One of our growing strengths is the increasing numbers of each GB, and for that matter the increase in posts and blogs in the other AutoModeler forums. If I were to focus on just whatever race car build I wanted, it would make more sense for me to blog it in the Car forums as I've done in the past.

While we encourage everyone to finish a GB build that didn't make it across their finish line in time, in the Garage Queen ongoing GB, it's not a highly populated GB, while our current GBs are growing literally off the charts.

Personally, I would like to see the Big 3 GBs be our standard, and at the same time become even more active in the other AutoModeler forums.

Running tally after 2 weeks and 9 people voting

1. Dreams are Free! - 13 points
2. Best of British/French - 5 points
3. Country of Origin - USA - 4 points
4. Country of Origin - Japan - 2 points
5. Country of Origin - Germany - 2 points
6. Country of Origin - Italy - 1 point

We have a clear leader but nothing is certain until the final siren has blown!

If I have a said on it, why not! I cannot grant constant participation because you know I like underpowered economical commonsese cars, but once a year I should do a racer I guess

Gabriel,
I think that's the general feeling of most of the members. The more varied our GB's are, the greater the interest and involvement. But on the other hand, we should realize that not everyone of our group will be interested in every GB subject.

Well I was going to past on the Dream cars and would have gone for 5, 4 and then 6 but then I saw my magic bus. Man, who wouldn't want one of these in the ideal garage!

If that leaves you confused well I don't really mind what we go with now. I would find something to build.

cheers
Michael
