Henry Ford would be 156 years old this year, and even though he passed away in 1947, he is still listening in!
Likewise, his grandson Henry Ford II who would be 102 this year (passed away in 1987).
Starting on October 1 2019, we will be running the inaugural Blue Oval - Ford Motor Company Vehicles Group Build running for 6 months.
In this lead-up thread we will discuss Group Build rules (should be very simple), post reference images, proposed kits, techniques, anything relevant to the theme.
First point of order, who would like to lead the Group Build? Who is our biggest FoMoCo fan? As always, I will be here to assist in every way.
I'm looking forward to this one, plenty of scope in kits over the years, and some absolute classics available to us from a range of manufacturers.
Over to you folks, let's get the discussion started and generate some interest.

Very timely, and very interesting, is this announcement over on Armorama.
And so it begins.
Cheers, D
That is interesting. I have a 1965 Ford Mustang I could bring (and not complete) to the Group Build. I also have several Ford LN/LNT8000 kits.

Well, I have, somehow, four Ford kits. A 1940 sedan (Revell), a F100 (Moebius), Edsel Pacer (AMT), and 1934 Pick-up (AMT). Discounting the first one which I bought on the sole reason of low tag price, all the other ones are serious candidates. For what I can say now, the pick-up drew the short straw. But October is still far, and many things can happen...

Can the car be by division of Ford? Looking at Mercury Cyclone in 1/25...
Posted: Friday, March 01, 2019 - 07:00 PM UTC
Well, here's my current target. 1951 Ford V8 Custom Coupe.
My parents had a used one, in midnight blue, when I was little. It was the only cay we had until 1959 when my dad bought a VW Beetle. At some point they had it repainted (Earl Scheib $99 special?), but the paint didn't cure right if you rubbed up against it you got this blue-black power all over you.
I've never found the 51 coupe, I have found the '49 Coupe. But the grill is all wrong. With a little luck, I can use the grill of of this '49 Merc Coupe as a donor to get the "Marilyn Monroe" effect.
It'll be my first auto conversion, so I'm gonna ask a LOT of questions.

Too many choices, I'll make my decision as it gets closer. Kind of leaning towards a truck at this time though, maybe Meng's F-350 Superduty.

D,
I'm in as I'm a huge Ford race fan starting from the 1960s epic battles with the Ferrari's on the world's FIA Endurance series for prototype cars. I've got 3 Fujimi kits in the stash, although none are favorites as they have no visible engines, but I'm still looking for the AM ones. Plus there's a wealth of Ford race cars from every series you can think of for just about any year that the series ran in.
One question when it gets to open wheel cars whether F1 or USAAC/CART. If the car was Ford powered but the body was by another manufacture such as the Lotus 49 series with Ford Cosworth engines, would that qualify for the GB, as I've got another 3 Lotus Fords plus there's a ton of Ford powered F1 cars out there.
As for a GB leader, I'll take it if no one else wants the position as your plate is already more then full.

Rich,
great to see you here. Did you ever finish that 1/12 scale Tamiya Tyrrell F1 car? I kind of lost track of it.

I almost forgot! I also have several Ford C900 kits, a 1937 Ford delivery van, a 1957 Ford Custom Sedan police car, and a 2006 Ford GT. Oh, decisions, decisions!

I am in though I cant say I am a Ford fan.
To start the discussion rolling I think they only ever made 3 or 4 memorable cars, of which I will try and build one
(Model T, GT40, Escort Mk1 and the Transit van)
On the rules, I think since this is a Blue Oval campaign then the bodies/engines should be Ford badged, otherwise the options are endless.
Cheers
Michael

Michael,
I see your point. I'm sure I can come up with an interesting build.

This is great guys, a lot of interest already and as expected a variety of options put forward already. It's ceratinly been a while since we had 10 on the list in the first day here on Automodeler!
Interested participants at this point:
Aussiereg (Damian)
jimb (James)
Szmann (Gabriel)
PasiAhopelto (Pasi)
md72 (Mark)
Littorio (Luciano)
Dixon66 (David)
Joel_W (Joel)
tinbanger (Richard)
Cosimodo (Michael)
Now how did I know that this would be the first discussion point regarding the framework of the Group Build?
I will give my opinion, then let the discussion flow.
I believe that we should allow vehicles manufactured by Ford and showing the Blue Oval, or alternatively the FORD name (Trucks, Buses and Tractors commonly didn't show the Blue Oval). I also think that we should allow the vehicles manufactured by the divisions that were created by Ford and always owned by Ford (Lincoln, Mercury, Edsel). If we allow any division of Ford, we stray into Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover, and Volvo. I would also limit to vehicles wholly manufactured by Ford, not those only powered by Ford muscle (sorry Joel ).
Many thanks Joel, your name is first on the list!
Cheers, D

As you all know, I am a Bowtie nut, but I am a big fan of early muscle in general. I have a very meagre stash of Ford which consists of only three kits, all from the 30's (I'm also a big ZZ Top fan). At this stage I am leaning towards this kit, and I also really like the box top colour scheme as I have been thinking about doing a silver car for quite a while now, just not brave enough
Plenty of time to change my mind though, and plenty of browsing through hobby shops in that time.
Cheers, D

At this point I'm looking at the Revell Ford GT 2017 team car from Ganassi racing with the Motorcraft sponsorship, as I've just located the decals for it.

Inspiration post #1 from me, from Car and Driver website, Best 20 Ford Cars of All Time .
Plenty of "opinions will vary" to be had here, but also something here for everybody.
Also if you have a bit more time, there's the Ford Motor Company Timeline
Ooh, I forgot about the 427 Shelby Cobra, probably my favourite Ford muscle car. As I said, plans subject to change without notice
Cheers, D
