Well, today is one of those all day race days that will totally consume me in all ways possible.

1st, I'll be focused on the Indy 500 and being in front of the tv at 11 am sharp. The race doesn't start till 12:45, but that doesn't matter. I'll be glued to the TV till hopefully a Team Penske car crosses the finish line 1st for Penske's 18th 500 win.

2nd, I've got the cable box recording the Monaco F1 GP with Team Mercedes a huge favorite starting 1 & 2 once again as they've done for every race this season. I'm hoping Red Bull's Verstappen whose starting 3rd ahead of both Ferrari's will win but at least get a podium finish. I'll watch the race right after dinner which is only started once the 500 is over.

And don't forget NASCAR - Coca Cola 600 Charlotte Motor Speedway. Longest race on the schedule.

Cheers

Robbie,
Thanks for the update on today's racing. I'm sure that there is even more racing on tv, but there is a limit to what even I can watch even being retired.

I don't follow Nascar except for an occasional race, as I just can't focus & follow three main series plus IMSA, FIA endurance racing and even the Australian Supercars. Plus there are more series that I catch from time to time late at night on cable.

Hey Joel,

Campaign idea! Build a model from one of the 3 racing series racing today. Campaign ends on raceday next year. Do two ribbons. One for building one model and one for anyone who builds a model from all 3 series (F1, Indy, Nascar).

Cheers

Robbie,
Now that's an interesting idea. I'll run it by Damian as he's got a list going of potential GBs. One rule that we're going to be sticking to is that all GBs moving forward are for 6 month at a time, one at a time for now. I'm not sure if awarding two ribbons is possible. But keeping track of who actually completes 3 models from the 3 series isn't something that's been done before and will need it's own spreadsheet.

Could be an interesting campaign. Decent Indy cars are hard to find, though. I don't think there is anything more modern than the early 1990s (Revell), and the AMT kits are late 1970s or 1980s.

Well the Indy Car thing sounds interesting. But the pickings seem kinda slim for actual race cars, pace car kits seem to grossly outnumber actual racers. I'd really like to do one of Granatelli's Turbine cars from 68/69. Evil bay is all over the place from $29 to 300 for the same MPC kit

Actually, I thought that the concept was to build one car from each series regardless of year.

Both Indy and Nascar cars haven't been kitted in quite a few years due to the extremely high licensing costs asked. Both series went with Diecasts that sell for $60-100 depending on the driver/team. F1 cars are still kitted with the newest cars being 2018, and then only a few teams have been replicated.

There are resin bodies needing a donor kit, and full resin/multimedia kits for Indy and Nascar. As an example a Indy car depicting a Powers Team Penske car sells for $120.

And to be honest, there is no way that someone who builds at my speed could build 3 cars in 6 months. 2 builds would be cutting it close for me.

Do they even make a 1/25 F1 car? I thought F1 models were all 1/20 or 1/12.

I'd be happy with a Revell CART/Indy car from the 1990s.

Not sure what NASCAR I would do. Would this count:

Jim,

F1 kits have been and are currently molded in 1/12, 1/20, & 1/24 scales.

Nascar kits were kitted in 1/25-1/24 scales depending on the manufacture.

The better Indy cars kits were from AMT and are 1/25 scale.

As for would the Chevy be allowed, you're getting way ahead of yourself as the next GB is the Blue Circle that starts 10/1, and after that hasn't even been put up for consideration, just suggestions for the data base.

But if I were the mod for that GB, I don't see why it wouldn't be as Nascar did run on the Beach at Daytona. Just have to check to see what years they ran on the beach.

One of the best races I've seen in many a year. I'm exhausted just from watching it. I won't post winners or losers so everyone who recorded it, can watch it 1st.

What I will say, and already Twittered about was the horrendous coverage from NBC, which was worse then their regular Indy coverage. A million commercials with split screens and no sound on the race side, so I used mute. The split was more like 60/40 commercials. I'm sure that NBC made a fortune off of the race.

I'm equally sure that their response if they do actually post one, is that their Gold package for the full season or the month at Indy has no commercials. I have no intention of paying for any additional services via cable when my monthly bill was over $200 and we cut back some to $180. Still totally outrageous.

Jim,
That's a far better trait, then always being late to the party. And for now the most important thing for the up coming Ford Blue Circle GB, is that you're enlisted.

Oh, I have a plan for that! Either a 1948 Ford convertible or the MPC Ridge Runner Pinto.

Unfortunately it is not possible to award more than 1 ribbon per Group Build, and these would all fit into the "Strip Track and Trail" Group Build theme.

With the number of recent releases of rally cars, and the popularity of the various race modes, I'm thinking this might be next up on the list after the Blue Oval!

Cheers, D

D,
Thanks for the clarification as I honestly had no idea about the multiple ribbons.

As I posted previously to Jim, there aren't any current season or last year seasons cars for any of the 3 series except one or two F1 cars other then expensive limited run multi media kits.

I'd always cast my vote for any GB about any type of race cars. BTW, the Aussie Supercup series is a personal favorite that I try to follow as best I can on You Tube. Even Penske Racing now has a full Supercup team as does Andretti racing. it has to be without a doubt equal to the best racing I've ever seen, and puts F1 to shame.

And speaking about yesterday's F1 race, it once again proved that F1 with it's high tech everything has no idea of how to put the racing back into racing. The Monaco F1 GP was simply horrendous.

Absolutely no racing nor passing at the front. Gee what a surprise. Verstappen should have taken 2nd place but that stupid accident in the pits due to Ferrari's pit crew blocking their vision which caused him a 5 sec penalty and dropped him down to 4th place in the final standings. That literally was the only reason for a position change for the 1st 4 places.

Also, the time has finally come for F1 to realize that Monaco's street circuit was been passed by time and technology. When the whole race depended on tire strategy and pit stops rather then performance on the track was a complete disgrace and one of the most all time boring sleepers of a non-race period. Calling F1 a traveling circle better describes what it currently is, rather then what its status should be.

Well, my idea was to represent 'raceday'. I thought of the multiple ribbon idea in order to give an extra notice to the modeler that built 3 kits for each of the racing series in one campaign. Yes it would be any year as long as each build represented one of the three series that are running a race that day (US it's Memorial Day weekend). I am not of a motorhead modeler anymore (was avid in my youth) and I did not know indy kits were rare. As for length of the campaign, the only thing it will have to end on, yes raceday.

Cheers

Robbie,
To end on Memorial day, the GB would have to start on 12/1/19, which would be 3 months into the Blue Circle Campaign as it's start date is scheduled for 10/1/19.

From previous experience on Armorama and Aeroscale, just getting a majority of enlistees to finish within the time frame, where most have been longer then 6 months has proven to be an issue at times. And that's with just one entry. Sure there are those that build multiple entries, but they're in the minority of the enlistee entered.

The point of going to just 6 months for us is to get more of the enlistees building and posting at the same time, thus the GB is a very active place. Most builds take way less time if one concentrates on that one build.

Why not join our Ford Blue Circle GB, and give Auto Modeling and our Forum a try? I'm betting that you'd love it. There's so many Ford badged cars/trucks to choose from, that you'll surely find one that interests you.

Well, it was just an idea. Seems you have plenty of campaigns to keep busy. Anyways keep it in mind. As for joining Blue Ovals, hmm, I have a 1:1 Scale 2016 Dodge Challenger RT Plus Shaker that is my current 'Car Model'. Not sure joining Blue Ovals I might be 'crossing the streams' if I can quote a Ghost Busters movie term

Cheers
